A hope for Parkinson's disease
Mucuna Pruriens is one of the most popular and important plants in the region of India. And, it is recognized due to its aphrodisiac properties and by also stimulating the deposition of proteins in the muscle and increasing muscle mass. It, too, is indicated against Parkinson's disease.
According to the Pharmacy Nívia Fernandes Xavier, "it is a natural supplement, indicated mainly for bodybuilders, its use increases testosterone levels, muscle mass and decreases body fat."
Composition of Mucuna Pruriens
Mucuna is one of the richest natural sources in an amino acid called L-Dopa (Levodopa) which is an essential precursor to dopamine. And, maintaining proper levels of dopamine is essential to nourish mental functions, emotional health, sleep, memory, motor skills, and muscle coordination.
L-Dopa is a compound known to improve mood and is highly recommended in controlling depression and anxiety as it stimulates the production of dopamine in the brain.
L-Dopa is metabolized to dopamine by both the heart and the brain and its use can be very useful for all individuals with nervous problems and anxiety disorders that can lead to severe neurodegenerative diseases or reduced cognitive ability. The Benefits of Mucuna Pruriens
Description:
Indicatications / Benefits :
- For Parkinson's disease (contains natural L-dopa).
- For impotence and erectile dysfunction.
- As an aphrodisiac and to increase testosterone.
- As anabolic and androgen, strengthening muscles and helping to stimulate growth hormone.
- Helping in weight loss.
Ayurveda is arguably the oldest medical system in the world - and the only traditional medicine to be based on scientific principles. The use of M.pruriens herb in ayurvedic medicine comes from times over 4500 years ago. M.pruriens has a fascinating biochemical profile, containing a large amount of active ingredients such as nicotine, serotonin and L-dopa (or dihydroxyphenylalanine) - the main precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine, isolated by Indian scientists in 1936.
When dopamine produced by neurons is affected by Parkinson's disease, it results in uncontrollable tremors, stiff muscles, difficulties in speaking, writing and balance, and slow movement. Sub-clinical deficiency of dopamine is responsible for the feeling of depression and lack of sexual desire.
Dopamine is considered the "feelgood" neurotransmitter, produced by the brain when you want to "be content" or give the body a "reward". It is also an intermediate in the production of norepinephrine (or norepinephrine, the neurotransmitter that awakens us from sleep) and is effective in stimulating the production of growth hormone (HgH).
In a comparative study with animal in Parkinson's disease in which equal amounts of active principle were used, Mucuna pruriens extract was shown to be two to three times more effective than synthetic L-dopa. This suggests that it is the biochemical profile of the herb as a whole, and not only the active principle, which is responsible for increasing its effectiveness significantly by treating symptoms of the disease. Human studies have also shown important neurological benefits for M.pruriens, and unlike synthetic L-dopa - excellent tolerance and almost no side effects.
It is likely that when taking an herb extract along with Tribulus Terrestris increases the amount of L-dopa that reaches the brain. Tribulus contains a moderate inhibitor of monoamine oxidase, a dopamine-degrading enzyme. This natural way of improving the effects of M.pruriens has been recognized by Ayurvedic practitioners for over 1000 years
Taking Mucuna pruriens standardized extract in L-dopa stimulates the secretion of growth hormone (Hgh) by the pituitary gland. Growth Hormone is undoubtedly the most powerful anti-aging hormone: it encourages muscle mass and discourages body fat, improves strength and levels energy, enhances sense of well-being and has a positive influence on many other aspects of Cheers.
M.Pruriens is also used in Ayurvedic medicine to: restore libido (along with Tribulus Terrestris) to increase testosterone levels (as shown in a controlled study) and dopamine; in cases of male and female sterility (increasing sperm count and encouraging ovulation), improving mental agility, motor coordination, and treating conditions of apathy.
Mechanism of Action:
Clinical and preclinical studies show that Mucuna pruriens is of great importance in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Sixty patients with Parkinson's disease with Mucuna pruriens were treated in an open study for 12 weeks. Statistically, there were significant reductions in Hoehn's disease and unified Parkinson's disease showing rates from baseline to completion of treatment.
Mucuna pruriens was also shown to stimulate the testosterone-enanthate induced by the androgenic activity observed in a group of treated individuals. Studies have also shown that M.pruriens seeds can cause a significant increase in the counts of spermatozoa, seminal vesicles and prostate of treated albino rats. Pharmacological studies have shown its utility as a CNS stimulant, antihypertensive, sexual stimulant and more.
Side Effects:
High doses of Mucuna pruriens can cause over-stimulation, increased body temperature and insomnia.
