Hi steemians, I make this simple proposal after reading the post "The Rise of Identity Thief" by @anyx
Some people create fake account to get lots of money. It is almost a game for them. So why not trying to reverse the rules of the game? The idea is to make the hunting of ID-thief rewarding. How would it work?
1) if you spot a fake introduceyourself post, simply make a post with the tag #identitythief and a link to the post
2) if you are a whale or a dolphin, and the post is clearly a thief, upvote the post of the person who has signaled the id thief and downvote the thief
The result is that the thieves will end up rewarding the good users :-)
NB: of course we have to double check if the person who signaled the thief is a legit person as well. This simple proposal may not be perfect, but this could leverage the power of the community.
I also agree to #identifythief being better! But then like others have said, mainy people have access to stolen and fake Facebook accounts and with the ability to purchase them for such a cheap price these days it may not be able to stop everyone...
An improvement to this could be to get people to verify them self by a 'set rule' that everyone follows such as ' be in front of your monitor with your steemit account open while holding a piece of paper with your name and #identityverified written or simply just a little gif with you holding it as that would be much more harder to fake even for experienced Photoshop users.
ok, just changed it ;-)
agreed. wouldn't #identitythief as tag be simpler than the one with the dash?
yep, just change without the dash
There are people who will learn to make things as legit as possible.
With the ability to purchase friends and old stolen facebook accounts twitters and basically someone whole life i think having a pgpkey or an image of proof with a sign being held up of the date might work a lot better then the hashtags. Although it could help identifying users who might need to be looked into with out people trying to full dox other users.
yep, that is true, the idea, is to leveration the power of the community as well as making things harder for scammers
@jako Actually that's being worked on right now. It's one of the projects at steembots.

You should hop over there and look at the cool stuff we're working on!
BTW nice idea on your post. I upvoted you!
sounds nice :-)
It's a great idea. I think some people are already doing it and it is working.
