Lets talk about race baby, lets talk about you and me

I bet that title sounds pretty familiar, I needed something catchy, and if your reading this it worked! Yes, race has impacted people for generations. The question is; are we coming out it? I’M ECSTATIC TO SAY YES!!

As a women, race has been heavily influenced in the fashion, and beauty industry since the dawn of consumerism and back. Its unfortunate to hear the stories of all the the people who wanted beauty standards of equal standing, only to be dismembered from society as flaws or aliens. To be a model, once upon a time, you had to be a certain color to publically appear as a figure head. Of course privileges went to people of the dominant color first.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn’t about white people, this still happens in countries with national indifference. Where they can only have people of their race represent. I mean you can't put a Chinese person in Bollywood and expect them to be a famous indian actor, that would be blasphemy. There's nothing wrong with that, but the societal flaw is that one race has to always stereotype the other races out. This happens everywhere in any industry. In the Beauty industry, girls of color are especially targeted by beauty standards. Girls with beautiful melanin are given ideas that instill, lighter is better. Around the world women would try to conform to new skin care regimes like skin bleaching, to only find societal value. Unfortunate as the damage that has been done in the past, the fashion and beauty industry has been evolving by finding beauty in color, and finally giving women of a color a break. And for people to finally be able to purchase consumer goods with an array of makeup shades and products that are meant for all skin types, and where models of color are finally able to advocate these products globally means we’re doing something right. The World is changing because we’re starting to accept the beauty in everyone and everything and sometimes even in the flaws that we carry. I feel the world is moving in a good direction with race and beauty.
