Introducing Myself: How To Throw A Party Your Friends Will Never Forget

Hi! My name is Ingrid Strauss and I wanted to introduce myself by sharing with you one of my favorite things in the world.

(Besides dogs.)

A few years ago I was introduced to the most amazing thing that will guarantee to bring a smile on the face to even the grumpiest person there is.

It's called Miracle Fruit.

For those of you who have never heard of it, I will give you a little background on it. It's a little fruit that mostly grows in very humid and hot places originally from West Africa. When you eat something sour (like a lemon), it makes it taste really sweet (like sweet lemonade).

This effect happens when the berry activates the sweet receptors in your tongue causing sour foods to taste sweet. This could lasts until it is washed away from your tongue by saliva (up to about 30 minutes or more depending on genetics).

If you or someone you know is diabetic, this could be a healthy alternative to satisfy that sweet tooth. Or maybe you simply want to lose weight but that sugar in your coffee is killing your diet. Or maybe you just want to have a party that will blow your friends' minds (and taste buds).

I prefer the actual berries, because the effect lasts longer and is more potent. The tablets have a much longer short life and don't need to be refrigerated though, so when there's an opportunity that shows up, you have them ready to go. They are also cheaper.

Next, invite friends and people you are trying to win over because this will make you the king/queen of the night.My friends still talk about the first "flavor-tripping" party I threw four or five years ago.

I have done many of these parties, I've literally gone bananas in the fridge and even tasted dog food (not recommended) so you have to trust me, I have picked the best for you!

Be careful what you put in your mouth because little by little each thing washes away the miracle off your tongue and wastes the fun faster.

Sour Cream:

Yes!! Sour Cream! Place the sour cream in a bowl surrounded by plastic spoons. You could also serve the sour cream on each spoon then place the spoons on a cheese platter so each person could just picks up a spoon. It is more fun when you don't tell people what it is at first then let them figure out on their own as they are eating it. Then reveal the truth at the end.

Lemon

Lemon is everyone's favorite. This is the one that will get anyone to eat an entire lemon like it's a sweet mango. With the lemon you really get to see the full effect of the the miracle berry. Cut it in slices and pass the lemon around the table. Make sure that everyone eats it at the same time vs people trying it first before everyone gets to get their slice. It's like spoiling the plot of a good movie you are about to watch.

Cherry Tomatoes

This one is an explosion of sweetness in your mouth. Even to those who dislike tomatoes, it's a winner. Just like the lemon, make sure everyone grabs one first. You would need to get about 3 for every person since this is usually the one to go fast.

Tequila

Give everyone a shot of Tequila with lime. The lime needs to be squeezed into the tequila shot before it is consumed. Alternatively, they could take the shot of Tequila then suck on the lime. Either way this is pure magic.

Plain Yogurt

Make sure it contains zero sugar and no other artificial flavors. It was to be plain old yogurt. Give one tablespoon to everyone. It is more fun when you reveal after they consumed it what it is. You can let them guess first.

Balsamic Vinaigrette

This is the one that will make jaws drop. I usually serve a very small amount in a shot glass. Make sure they sip it like fine wine.

Pineapple Slices with Tabasco Sauce

I usually just buy the pineapple slices already cut into slices. But sure, if you want to cut it yourself be my guest. Spread the pineapple slices on to a tray and stick toothpicks on each of them. Make sure you coat them all with a little drizzle of Tabasco sauce. This combination will get everyone talking.

Corona Beer with Lime

Finish it up with a cold corona beer. Add a slice of lime on everyone's cold Corona. This one is one my favorites. At this point some people's berry might have worn out. If this is the case, the beer will still be very refreshing. You can also offer them Guinness Beer on its own as an alternative: It tastes like a milkshake!

At some point in between items on the tasting menu, some people's miracle fruit might wear out. Make sure you check in with everyone about 4 courses in. A test would be sucking on a lemon. That's when you find out for sure if it's still there.

Be careful when eating anything that's hot in temperature: The heat actually gets rid of the miracle fruit from your mouth. If you want to wash it off, I'd recommend a hot tea.
