RE: Hi Steemit!! Introducing myself: I’m Anna - 20 yr old traveller & cyclist from New Zealand

Hi Anna, welcome to Steemit. I am also new here, it's my second week I think. Great introduction - I also visited Chiang Mai last year and I loved it. I am not a vegan myself but I am really interested in veganism, from a health and ethical perspective. I don't know enough about nutrition to be able to embark on the diet myself because I am recovering from chronic health issues and I feel like I need some meat in my diet, after being vegetarian for 20 years I found a lot of information that suggested I needed to have meat in order to help me to heal. I choose free range and organic only, and eat it very occasionally as in less than once a week. I don't eat any dairy products any more. I have a lot of respect for people who are passionate about health and nutrition and are able to embark on restrictive diets because I feel that it is a huge job to ensure you are getting the right nutrients. I think the key one is getting enough vitamin B12 - it is difficult to absorb as a supplement. In order to be absorbed you need the right mix of other nutrients I think - I expect you being passionate about health know what to do. I would love to hear any advice you may have. I am actually afraid that if I became a vegan that I would become ill, but maybe there are things I have yet to learn. Anyway, good luck with your blog! :)

Hey! Im unsure what chronic health issues you may have but my advice is you should try cutting out meat slowly. Even though we are taught otherwise, we really dont need it at all as we are designed to eat and thrive on plant foods. Meat is simply not beneficial to us as it does more damage than good, proven to cause cancer, obesity and many other health problems. Theres no nutrient found in animal products that we cant get from plant sources. Anyone can be deficient in b12, not just vegans due to the soil being almost depleted of the bacteria (hence why livestock are supplemented with it). The only way to be sure you are getting enough is with intramuscular injections (I do this myself and its really not painful at all- you can try sublingual spray or pills also, its up to you). You should check out What The Health on Netflix! Its a good documentary that might help explain things a bit better and answer more of your questions :)

Thank you for the advice and I appreciate your reply :)
