St. Helena Island
St. Helena, an island of the South Atlantic Ocean The island is named after Roman Empress St. Helena.
The island's location 4,000 kilometers east of the Brazilian coastal Rio de Janeiro. More than four thousand people live on this island of 121 square kilometers. St. Thomas's capital, Jamestown, divided into eight districts. Lisa Phillips is acting as Governor since 2016.
In 1502, the Portuguese first came to the attention of the Portuguese. There was no settlement at all. It is one of the oldest islands in the world. The island was used for a long naval abatement. Once upon a time the British sent prisoners to exile on this island.
French Emperor Napoleon was exiled to this island after the defeat of Waterloo in 1815. Until the death (in 1821), the last days of his life were cut off here.
