Introducing myself

in #introduceyourself3 years ago (edited)

Hello hive world!

fattathelan here, 26yo market garden grower, educated craftswoman, messy home cook, Celtic songstress, and striving nature photographer. Originally from Wales, I currently live on a rural 45 acre organic farm, set in the rolling hills of South West England with my husband, springer spaniel and 10 hens (plus a whole bunch of other creatures who are not my immediate family).

I am most content when wandering the bracken in the lower fields of the farm, tending to my herb garden, reading beside the ponds, frolicking with a big basket full of vegetables and rolling out pasta dough for dinner. I love to write and find much fulfilment from authors like E.E Cummings and enjoy anything that allows me to see and experience nature from a new perspective and feel close to the seasonality of my environment.

Enthusiastic about creating sustainable, community-based food systems, I have been running an organic market garden CSA for the last three seasons. We've grown over 100 varieties each season in our two and a half acre garden and led groups of volunteers, held events and fed our community through weekly vegetables shares. Despite the many successes over the years, there have also been many failures, after which, we've decided to demonetise the garden and use the space instead for domestic abundance, experimental growing and community education, rather than as a market garden business. My husband will be working nearby, implementing English country kitchen and foraging garden at a farm retreat nearby.

I'm completely enlivened by the possibilities that lay ahead with this new venture, to have so much growing space for experiential design and cropping, to grow for abundance and not for profit, to grow for crafting, for preserving, for health, for friends and teaching and cooking. I'll be sharing my day to day life here through writing and photo diaries, along with inspiration I find along the way. I hope very much that you enjoy all that my muddy corner of the world brings to you!

So excited to meet you. Where in SW are you? My mother and sister in law live at Coleford nr Radstock. I used to live near there and down in Dorset at Throop nr Wareham. We are in Australia now but it's a part of world very dear to my heart.

As Mini said below, re communities but also The Herbal Hive..

We're living in Dorset close to the Devon border at the moment, but hoping to move a little further East to be closer to the town. It is indeed a beautiful spot! Thanks for the community recommendation!

It's lovely to meet you. Your pictures are beautiful and inviting. I hope you settle in well here.

Some communities you might be interested in are HiveGarden and Foodies Bee Hive. There are also craft communities, including my favourite, NeedleworkMonday. Something to look at as you familiarise yourself with Hive.

You may also be interested in joining in with TeamUK. @steevc compiles a list of all UK Hivers as a support group. You're sure to be welcome there.

I had found her for the #BritList. We have a Brits Discord, but it's not very active.

There are so many discord groups to keep up with now. I'm afraid I tend to just stick to one or two, so don't visit often.

Me too. I would rather socialise on Hive anyway.

Thank you so much! I will take a looky :-)

welcome to hive! So glad you decided to sign up and start posting here <3 I'm sure you will find a home in the communities and awesome content creators on hive, let me know if you have questions as you start your journey, always happy to help! missing you guys already and know we will see you both again soon!

We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and publish and do everything except Wallet with the Posting key
  2. Use your Active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Hivesigner, and Peaklock,
  3. The Owner key and the Master password are only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your passwords; but copy and store them offline in a safe place,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once, and
  7. Do Not click on any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.

I found you because @brittandjosie and @jamerussell from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

Hi @fattathelan! Welcome to hive. I just moved back to Norfolk from the south west. I love it down there! I wouldn't have left except that my family are all here in the flatlands and the pandemic drew me back to them, for which I am very grateful. But I am missing the rolling hills and ancient woodlands. Sounds like a dream where you are. I've been on a similar journey to you it seems. Although I hadn't actually started market gardening, I was in the process of planning for it but I have decided to go down the forest garden, abundance, experience and education route instead. In the process of doing a design at the mo. Really looking forward to following your project! Hive has been an amazing space for inspiration and knowledge so far. I hope you find the same. Big love ❣️🙏

That's great to hear! Look forward to seeing more of your journey too :-)

That is awesome to have you here! !PIZZA we love you already as you are family!

Welcome @fattathelan. I am excited to join in your journey here on Hive. We have a lot of the same interests. @traisto is an organic farmer in Greece that I think you would connect with as well.

Hello @fattathelan and welcome to HIVE! I am so sorry for the late reply, we had a lot of work in the garden these last days :)
What an interesting intro and it seems that there is a good reason that @sjarvie5 brought us in contact :) We share the same interests for sure!
So, I am really happy that you are here!
