Hi, my name is Derek. I’m originally from Scotland but have been living in Ireland since the start of the Century (Damn, that makes me feel old).
My main hobbies are surfing, meditation/mindfulness and energy healing (Yep, I’m a hippy!). I’m a big fan of the law of attraction and all types of new age thinking and I believe that our lives tend to be a direct reflection of our thoughts and beliefs. Essentially, you get back what you put in, which I hope to talk a bit more about in my posts.
I’d describe myself as quirky, shy, self-deprecating, thoughtful and fun and I hope to get to know ye all better as I get more involved in the Steemit community.
I have only recently been introduced to blockchain technology and crypto currencies but I am already hooked. This is such an exciting time and there is soooo much to learn! I look forward to picking your brains, sharing what I’ve learnt in life so far and generally joining in on this crazy ride.

What's up buddy! Welcome to the community. Cryptocurrencies led me here too and it has been a great ride so far. Enjoy yourself. For me, it is much easier to write about what I already know.
A couple things I've learned since I've been here:
Don't discount the importance of comments. Dropping the right comment, meme, or GIF can get you attention when you are new. It can also land a decent payout and gain you new followers. And it's a lot of fun . .
And check the community for any questions. There is a library of info right through the Steemit search engine. There are many people who have written things about any question you would have about the platform.
And most of all: Have a blast Steeming!

Thanks! Love the name by the way. I played with a few variety's of this including hippymchipface (couldn't get past the chip in the middle), dreamymcdreamface(didn't have the guts to go with), and surfymcsurfface(actually this one sounded ok but I guess I'm just boring so went with dpol!
