It's All About Me (Introduction)

As I prepared to write this post I keep playing the song “I Wanna Talk About Me” by Toby Keith over and over in my head.

Let’s talk about everyone’s favorite subject, me! But in this case it’s all about me and therefore indirectly about you. Why you, you may be asking. Well, my life has formed my opinions, which is what I will primarily write about in the genres of religion, politics, poems, short stories and the occasional sports article.

My name is Doug Herron and I’ve been married for 16 years to my wife Melissa, and we have three children; Jeremiah (15), Faith (14), Titus (10).

My wife and I were married at a young age of 18 (her) and 17 (me) although nearly eighteen. We had what is commonly referred to as a shotgun wedding, but without the shotguns. In the south, when a young couple gets pregnant people will ask if you had a shotgun wedding; get the girl pregnant and their family holds you at gunpoint to stand by your responsibility. So no shotguns, and no hay bale at the altar. We had a very eloquent and small wedding.

I am a Christian, and have been for most of my adult life. My wife and children are also Christian and we are currently attending a small Episcopalian church in our hometown of Hendersonville, TN.

My political leanings are more libertarian/anarchist although I am continually moving more and more towards anarchism. Not going to dive deep into that at the moment but I don’t believe in a chaotic society as most people tend to think when they hear the word anarchist. I was a diehard conservative for many years; I listened to Rush, Hannity, Fox News and more; I was a thoroughbred conservative. However, my conservative views began to collapse about the same time that most of what I thought I believed theologically began to wash away like sand between your toes.

Theologically and politically people on the left will often say I am to the right of center, and people on the right will say that I am way in the left. I don’t say that to say that I believe I am balanced and perfectly in the center, because I don’t believe for a moment that I am. I do however believe that life is a journey, and like any journey, when you realize you made a wrong turn somewhere you attempt to correct the course and get back on the right (no pun intended) road.

I love Game of Thrones, the TV series, as I have not yet read the books, although I do plan to read them in the near future. Therefore, I will use quotes from Game of Thrones quite often as I believe that is a series that has masterfully painted a picture as the world was, is, and most likely will be.

I know this intro was brief but I hope it will encourage you to come back and read what I have to share. Comment below and if you have a favorite Game of Thrones quote please share below.

Final notes:

Sorry my picture is terrible and that I have the handwriting of a 2nd-grader.

The paintings in the background are all done by my wife with the exception of the volcano which was done by my youngest child.

My friend @benslayton is the one who introduced me to Steemit.

I tend to have salty language about subjects I am passionate about, but writing gives you time to reconsider what you just wrote. Therefore, you shouldn't see much of my salty language, but it will most likely come out from time to time. I am a fan of Game of Thrones, afterall.

Thanks for you time,

Doug

You missed some commas. :)

Well, unlike Pokemon, I can't catch them all.

Great intro article, @douglasrherron. Glad you finally decided to join!

welcome to the steemit club

Welcome to Steemit, Doug! Sounds like you're on a similar journey I've been on, though I eventually left not only Statism, but religion also. I look forward to interesting conversations and will give you a follow to see how it goes.

Thanks, Luke. Ben has spoken of you often and always said you and I would have some great conversations. I'm looking forward to it.

Welcome to Steemit. Loved your introduction. Game of Thrones is one of my favorite series, too. For the 10 weeks it's on every year my wife and I arrange our life in what I like to call Game of Thrones Time. Basically one unit of time equals exactly one week from Sunday at 8:00pm to Sunday at 8:00pm.

Haha. Love it. Looking forward to the next season. Thank you for checking the article out.
