Introducing myself, Donovan on the Isle of Man

Hi Steem!

Donovan here, nice to meet you.

I'm an erstwhile American living far from home on a little rock on the Irish sea.

Here's a shot of me on a blustery bluff, a classic example of the Isle of Man's dramatic scenery.

I'm a translator by training, je parle français and hablo español. Anche parlo un po d'italiano, ma devo praticare. My passion is literary translation, but I also work on more technical texts to pay the bills. If you're interested in translation or languages from an artistic, practical or tech perspective (or all of the above) go ahead and follow my account!

Although I'm most comfortable writing in English, I look forward to participating in non-anglophone communities on Steem as well.

I'll be writing mostly about life here in the strange world that is the Isle of Man, with some book thoughts and translation musings along the way. Other interests of mine include contemporary circus performance, theater, LGBTQ art/history/activism and treasure-hunting at auctions and charity shops. This account will inevitably evolve as I get to know Steem, I hope you'll join me on the ride.

If you've read this and you think we might have an interest or two in common, comment and let me know. I'm excited to be a part of the multicultural, international world of Steem!

Welcome :)
Helping out with some translations could be a great headstart in your steemit life! Helping is always appreciated around here!
Resteemed you via @welcoming, my page for showcasing promising newcomers like you!
Greets, @theaustrianguy

Thanks so much for resteeming my post! I'm definitely interested in contributing to translations here on steemit. I usually translate into English, which seems less common on here than English>other languages as a combination...but I'm keeping my eye out for projects I could contribute to.

A bientôt !

Why did you use #fr tag ?

Merci! J'ai écrit ça en anglais, mais je parle français et j'espère participer dans le monde de Steem-fr. Je travaille comme traductrice et je suis toujours à la recherche d'opportunités de pratiquer votre belle langue et rencontrer des gens partout dans le monde.

Will see you around!

Hola Rosa! Mucho gusto ;) Your blog is great! I'm actually living on the Isle of Man, which is a weird little place between Ireland and Scotland. I have a feeling you'd like the place, one for your travel bucket list perhaps...see you around!

Yes! Even though we went to Scotland for a month, we still did not have time enough for the 'weirder places'! I'm absolutely sure I will like the Isle of Man, and I definitely will visit it! Thanks for liking my blog, hasta luego! ;-)

Welcome to Steemit! Isle of man, look forward to hearing more about it! Followed! And we probably have a few interests in common,. I'm a women genders minor, enjoy geocashing, which is a a hunt for random items people have placed in your community with clues and a gps coordinate.

Thanks for the kind welcome and the follow! I've never done any geocaching but I have a feeling I would love it. See you around!

Welcome @donovanpage :)

Your skills could be a blessing for so many people here. I wish you a great steemit journey :)

@modernpastor

WoW a treasure hunter !

Welcome ;-)

Hey @donovanpage, welcome! I hope you'll enjoy your time on Steemit. I've personally found it to be my favorite social media site to share work that is close to my heart, because the community tends to be really encouraging and supportive.

I'm intrigued to hear more about your travels/life on the "little rock!" That's awesome that you are so involved in language work. I'd like to get back to my studies too, mainly for Japanese. Love Spanish as well :-D

I appreciate you taking the time to read my post the other day and the support by resteeming it. You're welcome to leave any impressions/criticisms on my stuff anytime :)

Have an awesome start to the new year.
@d-pend

Thanks again for the warm welcome! I'm loving how much effort (some) folks clearly put into their posts here, it seems like a very creative and encouraging community. I'll definitely be keeping up with your posts, I admire anyone who has a real appreciation for language. Japanese is fascinating, I've always been interested by it but never even approached learning it. More power to you. See you around!

Welcome to steemit and thesteemengine, very great introduction and start

I am not quite as good with languages, but have tried and failed at enough of them to gain some interest in comparative linguistics as a result :D I'd love to chat more about languages since I don't know much about the European ones (Chinese, Japanese, Korean are ones I dabbled with) and generally anything to do with translation and literary translation :)

Oh, sounds like we have a lot in common! I'm fascinated by Asian languages, although apart from a passing familiarity with Hindi/Urdu I don't know the first thing about any of them. Looking forward to good conversations in the future :)

Are you on any of the groups on Discord? Steemit Chat doesn't seem to work very well, and I find sometimes conversations on the comments section a little bit difficult to manage. Yes, definitely keen to have a chat about languages and all things translation related :)

I'm on the STEEMEngine!

I have noticed :) I'll DM you for a discussion!

we have italian french and english in commun :D
but spanish .. you got me there ;)
my native language is arabic by the way lol

Happy to make your acquaintance and to follow you! I adore language with an inexplicable passion. Looking forward to your future posts.
