Hello Steemit community,
My name is Brandon Rosano. I am 25 years of age and from the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a student, hungry for knowledge in many fields, but currently I am focused on Web Development and Austrian Economics. I am a strong believer in voluntary co-operation, transactions, and society. Since 2013, I have observed the crypto-currency space, watching it grow, investing from time to time, and being somewhat of a recluse. Up until my discovery of this platform have I decided to go from the position of an observer, to a person who engages with a like-minded community. With that said, I am excited to be a part of this exponentially growing project and would like to share how I became a Digital Nomad.
Kudos to @dollarvigilante. If it wasn't for my discovery of your work, I wouldn't be where I am today.
How it began...
The desire of becoming a world traveler stemmed from a long adventure down an Internet rabbit hole. One day, I was looking up random Youtube videos on anarchy and fell in love with the style that Julia Tourianski brought to her videos. After playing through a few of them I stumbled into an interview between her and Jeff Berwick. I did a quick search, found out who he was, and watched some of his Anarchast videos. Things changed once I watched the video titled "Jeff Berwick on Escaping Amerika - Moving to Mexico and being a Prior Taxpayer" where I stumbled upon the concept of PT.
The PT lifestyle is referred to as Perpetual Tourist or Prior Taxpayer. With this concept you set yourself up to legally become a permanent tourist with use of the Five Flag Theory. Previous to this discovery, I recall finding a book on PT, titled brilliantly as Bye Bye Big Brother, a few months before hand. I didn't think much of it, putting it on the back burner to read at a later time. As Jeff was explaining in the video, I felt a burning sensation that there was a system that perfectly represented how I felt on life.
I was working for my father as a Pool Technician and Manager while teaching myself programming on my days off. It paid me good for the amount of hours I was putting in, but I felt incomplete. I felt as though I needed to change my habits and do something very courageous, otherwise the universe would have trapped me into something I was not willing to do. So, I put my brain to work and made a bold move by proposing to my Peruvian girlfriend also suggesting the idea that we go and visit her home country for a little while. We both agreed that we would have 6 months to save up, prepare, and sell a majority of our belongings. I ended up having only a suitcase and backpack of processions to my name. We threw a going away party, which I am grateful for everyone who came out to say goodbye. A week later it was time to hop on the plane and spend a week in New York then make our way to Peru.
We filled our suitcases with too many items, so much that we had to use trash bags as carry on.
It has been four months now, being in Lima, Peru. Both my fiancée and I have been enjoying life, starting exciting new ventures, learning about an array of useful skills, and seeing the beauty of this planet.
I hope to see more people following their dreams, doing what they prefer rather than what they are forced to do. I will be posting regular content here about these topics, and on other social media outlets, if they allow me. Currently I am programming the website and will hope to have that up and running soon. With some effort you too can enjoy the good life and become a digital nomad.
A special thanks to the creators of this platform. Without it information would only be limited to the scope of our intelligence and what our masters want us to see, hear, and feel.
...Also this can't be an introduceyourself without a verify pic!
Hi @brandon-rosano and welcome to Steemit from another 'newbie'. I enjoyed reading your story and wish you every success as a digital nomad. I have several times in life been in a position of "starting again" with just a backpack and $20 or $30 in my pocket. And you know what? I survived just fine :) I enjoy being a soverign human being too rather than a programmed sheep.
I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the warm welcome.
Cool story buddy
Welcome! Nice to have you. Just curious, but how do you like it in Peru? I've always wanted to visit.
Comparing my experience from the States and Canada, it really is change of pace. I am staying in Lima for the time being, the weather is mostly grey until summer; which starts at the end of the year. It can get expensive, but from what I hear it is worth it. The rural areas are very beautiful especially Cusco. Very tourist friendly, I would recommend going there for your first time. It's safe and you have plenty to do.
