Things can be a little slow when you first start so don't get discouraged. Often, when you are new, commenting can be more profitable than posting. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't post but it is something to think about doing if you want to get your rep up a little faster. Engaging in the communities that you post in will also usually get you the best quality of followers so it might be worth doing.

Watch out for spammers and scammers. This is, after all, the internet so it should be no surprise that some people are waiting to take advantage of the unwary. Just avoid shady looking links and don't waste your upvotes on comments that sound too generic to be sincere.
