My first recording Studio.

It was in 2003. I was 22 years old. I became famous sound producer at that time and I have a small recording Studio at home. It wasn't a serious Studio - only one computer, one microphone, a synth Kurzweil, sound card Layla 24 and a mixer Berenger.

It was in may. Shortly before I stopped working with the person who recorded two albums and have become very popular in Russia. I earned money which was enough to make a nice Studio not at home. I quickly found the room, it was on the old factory that stopped working. When the factory worked in this room was the shower. The room was in terrible condition and I had a lot of work.

The view from the back side (exit from the shower room).

I laid out the drums and guitar amplifiers in this room. Also there was a microphone for voice recording. It's not very professional, but it's better than writing at home. It was a very big step for me.

Future room for drums and guitar amps.

The other side.

First of all I started to make room for drums and guitar amps. I was lucky that I was not alone and helped me friends. At the time I was looking for new music band for my work. I just met nice people with whom decided to work and they helped me build the Studio.

I bought building material and we started to work. On each wall, we screwed the pieces of wood and put soundproof material between them. From the top we followed the sound-absorbing material.

We covered the walls with carpet, it is good for sound too. It absorbs sound and doesn't reflect it.

The room had very high ceiling (5 meters, it is 16.40 feet). It was a lot for us and we made a new ceiling. We made a grid out of wood, closed it with soundproofing material.

The other side.

We spent two months on the construction of this room. When we finished we could start to work with music. It was not very comfortable, but I put a recording system in this room. We did not start to do the control room even.

Here are some pictures of this room.

I'm at work. August 2003.

But it was only half of the work. We had to build a control room. There was a locker room before a shower. I made a test room here. There were Studio monitors, computers, microphone amplifiers, synthesizers and other equipment.

Inside the room.

This room was not very wide and we had to break one wall to get enough space.

Under the room was a basement and we had to make a new floor.

In the same way as in the first room, we made a wooden lattice on the walls and ceiling. We put soundproof material between the bars on the walls and ceilings. Then we covered sound absorbing material.

The beginning of work.

We spent two weeks to do it.

We have not finished the room completely, but I began to put the recording equipment already. I was in a hurry to start working with music. I missed this.

My place of work.

I'm a good engineer as well. This is a microphone amplifier which I designed and assembled (1,2,4,5). Also I had PRO TOOLS MIX CORE and 882 audio interfaces I/O. I modified this system I did the level controls of the input signal (this is not in the original system) and replaced some parts of the chip. It is very convenient to record and the signal quality is much better than it was (3, 6).

Beautiful photo I think.

We have not finished building the room until the end when I started to work on music. I thought I'd do it someday later )).

But I have not finished building the room and not finish it to the end. I had a lot of work with music. I was at the Studio almost all the time. You can say I lived on it. I met a lot of interesting people. Some of them are my friends now. I celebrated holidays and birthdays. And a lot of my friends came to see me at the Studio to celebrate their birthdays. It was fun. This is my life.

I owned the Studio until 2011. In 2011 I started to build a new Studio which is owned now. Someday I'll tell you about it.

This was the room until 2011.

Here are the photos made at the Studio from 2003 to 2011.

My friends who helped me build the Studio. They are musicians with whom I have worked for a long time.

I have a photo of the photographer.

When I didn't know what to do )).

In the same factory. In the other rooms.

It was a good, fun time, I am glad to remember this and write about it.

Congrats on the studio @antizvuk!

What a transformation from the space was to what it is now. Have fun recording tunes in your new studio.

Cheers!

Thank you! It was a difficult job, we had no experience and made a lot of mistakes... We've fixed them when I realized how to do better!

The end result looks killer @antizvuk, especially considering that you had no experience when you started building out your studio.

I'm sure that you've learned a great deal, and if you ever need to build another studio, you'll know exactly what mistakes to avoid.

In 2011 I built a new Studio which is owned now. I will write this story in the coming days.

I look forward to your post @antizvuk! I love following up on build outs.

Cheers!

Wow, studio in a factory! I love the pipes, the pealing paint on the walls, the light, holes, wast space... Totally post-apocalyptic. Great memories in 8 years, no doubt about that! Thanks for sharing!

I enjoy video production as well! I made this little movie in my spare time! I shot this at the factory! Scary movie! ))

That looks great. It goes to show, even when you don't know what you are doing, you can make great progress with the right attitude.

Cleaned er up real nice

Awesome story mate! It's really cool to be able to see your journey through all of that. I'm really impressed that you kept the photos for this long! Welcome aboard!

Thank you! Music is my life! When I was a kid I thought how to make music. In the 12 years I have dreamed about my own Studio! I remember it very well, I didn't have other dreams! Recording Studio only! ))

a classic musician story. hard work, passion, artistic. sadly, it sometimes ends up with broken dreams. nonethelesss, always worth the it. Regardless of how it turns out

The best part of the hard work is when you look at the finished work and think "It was totally worth ;)". Only good and funny memories remain hahah, well done, you did really impressive.

Now that is a cool story and I hope many great recordings await the space you have created.

Great Journey, I converted a 6m x 6m Garage to a Studio years ago, mostly on my own ,so can appreciate the effort you put in.Thank You for sharing
