It is your "reputation" the more you receive upvotes from people the more your reputation grows, if the person who upvotes you have a higher reputation your will grow faster, on the other hand if people flag your comment or post you can lose reputation with the same rule, the more the reputation of people who flag you the more you lose reputation, i have read that people with less reputation cannot harm people's reputation that is higher.
