¿What defines a decade? ¿Is it a moment? ¿A story? ¿A trend? Hello Steemit community, this is my story.

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

Greetings to the Steemit community! I am glad to have joined this big family and finally to launch my first post. I’m going to start sharing my life and experiences most of all about my passion for the world of music and arts. My first post is to briefly introduce myself and hopefully get the chance to connect with those of you who are reading this right now. I’m an Artistic Producer, Vocal Coach and Systemic Constellations Therapist. Also I've a Bachelor's in International Relations degree. I consider myself lucky to be able to "work" and embrace all the areas in which I was trained in one place.

If you were aware that you are certainly the result of the decisions you make, that the place where you are right now being due to the path you have chosen and walked from your childhood, that the signs were always there for you, but you have never realized, that you are not a victim of circumstances but the architect of your reality ¿Would you be willing to accept that reality? ¿Would you take responsible for your actions? Your destiny? That's what I mean about to grow up and assume your life, take your dreams in your hands, and, once you look at the result, you understand in part your mission, the plan you've drawn and that has taken you to this point.

Arrivederci Roma: La belle époque

In case anyone was wondering, most people call me Yeli, I was born in Caracas in 1977. Practically daughter of the 80s ... A time of great advances and discoveries, a decade in which the great artists shined and the trends left a deep imprint in our musical memory. In the 80's I lived in Italy, Rome, because my dad studied as a lyric singer at The Santa Cecilia Conservatory. Definitely I had a very prolific childhood in a cultural way. I loved join him from time to time to the Conservatory, indirectly studying with him the piano lessons, or vocalization, history of music. I went to all his end of season concerts. In addition, my home was always full of friends, classmates, pianists, painters, poets, troubadours. Eventually, many of them became recognized artists. Then, the opera, the concerts, the musical meetings and the pizza in Trastevere, of course. My school was not left behind either, in fact music was a regular subject and even the study of an instrument, or being in the choir, go to the theatre, or visiting archaeological sites and museums regularly. Going to the ballet, to the opera, and studying the arguments, analysing and speculating was our daily bread. My musical taste was always wide, since at home you listen to all kinds of music. After his graduation and winning several international competitions, my father started working as a professional and teaching as a “Maestro”. And there I also learned a lot looking at him. He used to say that "teach well who sings well" ... And that is true because there is no greater example. Now that I think about it, I was always his guinea pig. In Italy, my brother Geràrd was born, another character in this story. Italian is my second language: Italy means a lot to me.

Finding myself

We returned to Venezuela in the 90's after the famous world cup ... It is supposed that he would only come to record an LP of Venezuelan music, but the love for his country was greater, perhaps it was many years of longing, missing his family, his land, going back was no longer tempting. After a period of encounters, disagreements and adaptation, from every point of view, because it is not easy to return to your own country as a foreigner being a teenager, thank God I was able to enjoy Caracas, which embraced me in its full cultural heyday. The Teresa Carreño Theater enjoyed a lot of prestige and I was able to see many international artists like Marcel Marceau, June Anderson, Dimitri Hvorostovsky, Luciano Pavarotti, Juan Diego Flores, opera and ballet seasons, concerts of all kinds. In the end we always ended up in an “arepera” of the" Mercedes", a popular district in the city.

The choral movement was also booming, in fact, after thinking a lot, I decided to be part of the Caracas Symphonic Chorus.

There it can be said that I had a more personal encounter with music and I learned a lot thanks to its Director Nora Herrera M. and the Director of the OSMC Carlos Riazuelo. My dad and Professor Gisela Hollander were the singing teachers. We tackle a demanding repertoire such as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Choral Fantasy, Verdi's Requiem, Fauré, Mozart, Brahms, the Stravinsky Psalms, Vivaldi's Glory, the Angostura Song, and also Opera's Traviata, Aida, Don Paquale, Elisir d'amore among others. We present ourselves in the Ríos Reyna Stage, UCV Aula Magna, Municipal and National Theaters, and, in Valencia city. Being a student of the School of International Studies at the UCV, I always went to the musical cycles promoted by the OSMC in the Aula Magna.

At first, my plan was to become a Cultural Attaché and work abroad. At home, in musical meetings, I could also learn more about our musical roots from the hands of great masters such as Luis Quintero, Cheo Hurtado, Mayra Martí, Floria Marquez, Telesforo Naranjo, Enrique Rubio, Nene Quintero, Estelio Padilla, Alfonzo Moreno, Sir Augusto Ramírez among others. I also worked with my father at The Opera de Oriente Foundation, in the area of event production, learning from promoting to technical assemblage as such. I was also able to meet and share with several lyric singers like Euro Nava, Cayito Aponte, Sara Catarine, Aquiles Machado, Elizabeth Almenar, Margot Pares Reyna, Betsabeth Talavera, and Italian, Japanese, Chilean, Russian, and American guest singers. Let's say that roughly those were the experiences that I treasure most of that time spent in Caracas.

The 21st century: What defines a decade? Is it a moment? A story? A trend?

After the millennium in 2002, my father decided to return to Cumaná, his hometown. I was refuse, I confess, but It born a new project in which I feld inevitably involved, the inauguration of The Luis Mariano Rivera Theater, not only as a Theater but as a Cultural Center of the city. It was a new beginning for me and the whole family. How you see our life always revolved around my father career, so I was born a daughter of art ... "And everything that resists, persists." At this stage of our Theater I call it the golden age, because since it was inaugurated in 2004, Cumaná was for a brief time a cosmopolitan city.

All our previous experiences were linked in this small theater and I understood the importance of bringing light to this city, as did Prometheus who defies the gods by stealing fire and giving it to humanity. Actually, that was always my dad's wish, that Cumaná had a theater and his respective cultural life. I’ll probably write a post dedicated to this time because there is so many things to tell about it.

After finishing his term as president of the theater and spending some time low profile, finally my dad decided to turn the page and explore the idea of a new project: A music academy. In those time I was living in Margarita Island, trying to make my life, looking for inspiration from other airs, however, when he called me to support him in this project I did not think twice. I loved the idea, working with young people was something new for me and, partly because of that, I decided to become a family therapist, to be able to more therapeutic skills.
Step by step we designed the concept of the Academy that turned out to be something completely unexpected because many children and young people enrolled and the repertoire more than lyrical was oriented towards the popular.

And this is how the team of teachers that opened this experimental stage of the Academy was formed: The project became a reality. Although, sadly, this would be the last chapter in the life of my dad.

¿So that’s it all? Here I’m just singing in the rain…

I am currently the General Director of the Mº Germán Segura Music Academy, which was created in August 2012 to promote the artistic and musical development of Cumaná. After the dead of my father, in March 2015, we continued to preserve his musical legacy thanks to the family support and our great teaching team currently made up of Manuel González (Performance Coach), Edmundo Centeno (Vocal Technique), Daniel Romero (Guitar), Yesenia Romero (Theory and Solfeggio) and recently Isabella Lo Bianco (Piano) instead of Bhonny Lorenzo. Likewise, the Mº Euro Nava, has dictated Master Classes in our place, being of great support for the students of the Academy.

Perhaps what makes our Academy special are undoubtedly many factors such as: the beautiful house where we develop the activities, which was built by a very important Italian family in our city, the family atmosphere that exists as well as being our headquarters, it is our home and, the way how children and young people enjoy, turning it into a kind of meeting point.

Many find here a family where everyone belongs and growing up is easier when you share a dream together. In fact, we promote teamwork and avoid internal competencies. I believe that competing is valid when the goal is to challenge personal limiting beliefs that prevent us from achieving success. That is why friendship and camaraderie are deep ties that narrow with each challenge and experience.
I do not know how many times I have mentioned my father, but certainly behind the success of this Academy my mother has been a fundamental piece. Libia has been a wonderful woman, I love her immensely and I know that a lot of people love her and respect her for her simple and unique way of being, the perfect accomplice.

Acamusiger is literally my a.k.a. in this social platform, because I want to take the opportunity that Steemit gives me to pose a new challenge at a virtual level, going beyond the barriers and not only making known the work we do but also promoting our talents. We have done a lot of presentations so I will be sharing interesting and entertaining content mainly from the musical and performing arts. Undoubtedly the situation in Venezuela has become so critical that we need to find a bridge to alleviate the financial crisis and thanks to your support we can continue with our work expanding our horizons: "You are what your deepest desire is." As the Upanishads said. I would also write about topics of my interest like spirituality, cinema review and life & culture in Venezuela, as well as daily encounters, as I embark on my journey as a vocal coach, guide you to the realization that what you seek is within.
