Introduce Your Hometown: Lugano (Switzerland)

Hey Steemians,

Lately, I read the article of @pollux.one and he made a blog about his hometown Lugano. The idea to use the hashtag #introduceyourhometown is from @ernstjan and @redtravels. His idea is really nice. If every steemian would do the same there will be a travel guide through the whole world. So I want to continue by showing my hometown Winterswijk and I hope all of u readers will do the same.

My plan is to inspire you to visit Lugano (my home town) by sharing the best walking tour. For a perfect day we share sights, good food and coffee, and even a secret...

From the train station, we start by strolling down Via Paolo Regazzoni, then turn left onto Via Borghetto and right onto Via Cattedrale.

Deep in the historic old town at Via Pessina 12, make a stop and marvel at Gabbani. This meat shop with its iconic salami decoration has been there ever always. And sure enough: A sign reveals that Gabbani has been around since 1937...Save

While the carnivores check out the inside, vegetarians can sample the always fresh assortment of fruits and vegetables outside:

Just a few steps down Via Pessina toward the plaza is Grand Caffe al Porto.

Gazing at their marvelous cakes on display is free, but where is the fun in that? Do as the luganesi do and have something sweet with a cappuccino (in the morning) or an espresso (in the afternoon).Save

Even though the sparkling Lake Lugano is awaiting right around the corner, it pays to look up at this beautiful ceiling at Piazza della Riforma:

Paddle boat season starts any day now.

After lunch, we cross the nearby Piazzale Ex Scuole back into the old town.

We explains that every Tuesday and Friday morning, artisans from the region will offer typical foods and delicacies at Lugano's farmer's market. In my mind, I imagine fresh mozzarella di bufala and Alpine cheese from Vallemaggia, Italian strawberries during summer and Ticino maroni chestnuts during fall...Save

Short time sailing on the lugano lake

At the LAC Lugano Arts & Culture Center

At the far south end of the lake promenade is the LAC Lugano Arts & Culture Center. As we pass the last boutique in the Via Nassa pedestrian zone, she tells me that for many years, Lugano basically ended there. Today, the abandoned lot is gone and the path continues to the new architectural masterpiece.Save
SaveOpened in September 2015, this venue has quickly become Lugano's poster child. Not only is it set in a perfect location overlooking Lake Lugano. The museum features a well curated permanent exhibit highlighting art from the Italian speaking canton. On top, the second floor of the building houses special exhibits.

SaveApart from visual arts, the LAC is well known for its concerts. Many swear by the acoustics of the new concert hall whose walls and ceiling are made entirely of wood. It pays to plan ahead and reserve your tickets for one of the many philharmonica orchestras from all over the world.

Sunset on Monte Brè for 100% perfection

Lugano is small enough to discover by foot, but big enough to never run out of new alleys and piazzas. I love this place! Why? Because Lugano.

I hope you liked the tour and let me know if you will pass by!!!!! .

Cheers, Francesco!!!!! .

Big hats off to @Redtravels for a great ide. As far as I am concerned one of the best ides I have come across on Steemit so far. I love reading about other peoples day to day life, seeing their surrounds and understanding the history. You have done a fantastic job and Lugano must go on the visit list.... I do think it would help if you include the country though {smile}...upvoted.

Great post! Wellcome to you as well! What a nice country! I will be there by the end of august!

Happy to heard that @eddie! Where are you from? You should check it out zurich and geneva. I moved to Switzerland 6 moth ago (my home country) and before i was working in USA, couple of years in SF and then in NY. Very different from the little lugano!

I am from Barcelona, Spain. I am just planning a trip with the family there. Our intention is to place our basecamp at Interlaken and, from there, visit different areas of the country. Enjoy!

This is sounds good. The swiss german interlaken ! Which cities are you planning to visit then?

Still under study!

ok cool! let me know when you have it!

Looking at flights to lugano now ! was thinking 12th-16th of october? Do you get a lot of snow? or will there be snow in oct ?

Hey @kunt4kentay, great to see that you liked and great for the flight! where are you based?
Probably on October should be not so snowy because is still on the south of switzerland.

If you are going to Zurich for example (where i work) there could be more possibility that will be colder! Why not coming in Summer @kunt4kentay?

Cool concept I really like this idea and Lugano looks lovely too. Awesome post @andreolf !

Thanks so much @ljkenward! it is so great to have awesome feedback from the @steemit community! I am looking forward to your next post too, ok?
