Not sure about best tips for a visual artist, but a couple things that may help new joiners in general :D Some of them may be to:
- join discord channels to find/expand (your case, artsie) communities. Look at people's posts or chat around to find the links/invites.
- perhaps join contests for increased exposure! (can check out at the #contest section)
- slowly get to (in the future) using useful apps like busy.org / steemnow.com/@[anyone's username], etc.
- perhaps check out the Official Steemit FAQ :D
