I had to look up "articling". Here in the US they kick you out of law school with little practical knowledge. As long as you pass the bar you are good to go, and wreak havoc upon the world.

The concept of practical experience is really great but the process is so hard here. There are very little positions and more and more are being offered without pay. Since you cannot be licensed without getting these positions it can be stressful and take a long time to start working.
