The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. Internet is a global revolutionary way of communicating and connecting with people world wide. It is regarded as a global village and the most 'populated planet' on its own.
With the internet, we have been able to socialize, see things we would never have seen - the reported and unreported. It gives us the opportunity to interact with people we wouldn't have been able to talk with on a normal day.
With internet as a tool, you can chat with Buhari, Donald Trump, Ambode of Lagos state and many other important figures from around the world.
Despite these advantages and the opportunities created by this great platform, some things are still regulated.
People have been arrested for publicly criticizing the government. People have been charged for treason. Some are in prison presently for expressing different opinions to that of their government.
Some of our businesses are restricted from being advised. Many platforms have different 'terms and conditions' which are binding if you must use their platform.
My problem is why can't we have equal opportunities to access these platforms? Some IPs are restricted from accessing certain websites. Some cannot rightfully do a business they love because the platform does not allow your country of residence to access their platform.
I think full access to internet iresspective of your country should be legalised and binding on all countries. The opportunities on the internet are so endless that most of us have not been able to tap 20% of it.
Just like education, full access to internet ought to be something everybody must have. We should all have full access to the internet and operate it freely without fear of coercion or intimidation from the government.
People should be able to express themselves freely without been arrested because a government feels it was a direct attack to his administration.
Just like we have schools and hospitals, there should be similar provision for the internet such that everybody will have access to it and be enlightened. I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.
Thanks for your time. Your boy @smyle the philosopher.
Nothing exists without regulations or laws. If the internet exists without regulations it will be seriously abused. Countries that check what their citizens use the internet for are guarding against certain things which is a crime in their country. Bottom line is all these are done to check abuse and misuse of the internet. Quality information are always and will always be available on the internet.
'nothing' as used by you is ambiguous! There are many things on planet earth with no laws guiding them.
The regulations you talked about seem not to address the 'abuse' by the government to quash opposition. Are you also aware of the fact that bloggers are arrested for reporting 'eye-witness' stories? The regulations in most cases favour those who made them.
Thanks for your time dear 😀
I have a mix feeling about this, internet should be free for all and everyone should be able to access it so as to be informed and educated. But the issue is that people or some group of individuals must abuse it either for fraudulent purposes Etc, that is why restrictions at point I believe should be imposed like that of China where some sites in the internet cannot be accessible while there is free internet. In summary everyone should be able to access the internet because of the advantages attached to it but there should be restrictions on which site to open and which not to.
Thank you sir but is there a way to know those sites? If you say porn sites, then those in that business will suffer. If you say age restriction, then how can we measure that?
I'm in support of this, but there should be restrictions as youths sometimes misuses opportunities like this.
What kind of restrictions sir? On what, by who?
I think the negatives of an unregulated internet could be outrageous as a lot of junks are currently in circulation despite the little regulation talk more of when is totally unregulated.
What about the negatives of these laws themselves? We should also consider whether the positives outweigh the negatives.
