Perception is the act or faculty of perceiving, or apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind. It is cognition or understanding. Perception is awareness, it is insight and revelation. In local parlance perception can be defined as "how you see am?" and by this mean your take on a matter. As simple as these sounds it is so powerful as a principle because your perception determines your experience in life. Your perception is your understanding of a matter. In life it is not what happens to you but your interpretation of it.
Your perception of anything is determined by four things:
- Your upbringing
- Your past experiences
- Your exposure to knowledge in general
4.your exposure to God's word (the bible)
Your upbringing can colour your perception in ways that you won't even believe but that is really deep seated and far reaching because it goes all the way down to your childhood and has been programmed into your subconscious. So you can perceive things based on childhood references and this may not be good at all depending on the situation at hand. Your past experiences too can color your perception and sometimes prevent you from taking right action or inspire you to take wrong actions as the case may be.
Knowledge refers to accumulated facts. Knowledge could be what your parents or your teachers told you or what you learnt along the way through observation and experience but could also be gotten from Books. This one powerful way of building your perception about any issue.
The best place to get perspective on anything is God's word. It is the only infallible source for correct perspective. What God's word say about any issue is final.
