I know it sucks to be afraid. There are lots of things to be afraid of, but in this article I want to address the fear of trying new things, and how to overcome this fear. If you’re always in the same place and not progressing forward, then you need to do something new and change your approach.
The Definition of Insanity
Even Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” This is so true. If you’re not seeing progress with whatever it is you’re doing and you keep doing the same thing over and over, why in the hell would you keep doing it the same way?
Why People Hate Change
There are a few different reasons for this behavior, but I believe one of the main ones is laziness. Most people are too lazy to try new things because they’re comfortable in their own way of doing things. There is nothing wrong with this if you’re okay with never progressing forward.
Another reason why people don’t want to change and do new things is because of the fear of failure. The funny thing about failure is that almost in all cases, no one ever succeeds at something the first time they try it. Most things take patience and years of practice to get good at it.
Take music for instance. Do you think you could play Beethoven or Mozart in your first year of learning how to play the piano? I highly doubt it, unless you’re the next Mozart or something. Lol!
Failure is Necessary for Success
Failure is a necessary ingredient for success. In order to succeed, we must fail so we know what to do differently the next time. If you avoid failing, then you’re only setting yourself up for failure in the long run. If you learn to accept failure and embrace it, you will be able to try new things so you can get to the point where you need to be.
The biggest thing to take away from this article is that failure is important for success. If you keep doing the same things over and over again, you will always remain at the same point. Wouldn’t you rather take a chance and fail than continue to be a failure for not progressing forward?
The choice is yours. Make a decision and act on it! You’ll be surprised at how much your life can turn around.
I agree with your point that people fear change; not only do they fear failure but they fear the unknown. To a certain extent we are all afraid of the dark. We can help such people by making the transition smoother by easing them into the change.
I think of fail as:
First
Attempt
In
Learning
I think people fear getting out of their comfort zone. However, not all failures are 100% failure. Step back and take a look at what you have failed at. Break it down into individual parts. Keep the successful parts and just make small changes to the rest until your failure becomes a success.
