Here are some macro shots I took of ants hard at work building their underground nest, while also trying to defend themselves from an unlikely intruder (I accidentally stepped on their ant hill).
Ants are some of the most interesting insects. They are amongst the most organized creatures on earth, building what would seem like miles and miles of tunnels (though not truly that big, but in a size comparison to their bodies, it is rather large) and they are also able to carry between 10 - 50 times their body weight. Their necks, according to a recent statistic, can also withstand pressures that are "5,000 times greater" than their body weight.
Another interesting fact. There are three types of ants in a colony. They are the queen, male ants. and female worker ants. The female workers, the ants you normally see, do not have wings. The queen and the male ants both have wings. Essentially the males sit back or fly around having fun, while the females do all the work. Sounds good to me! (sorry for the "ant"iquated joke)
It is quite difficult to get a clear shot of ants, for they are consistently in motion when visible, or you cannot see them, for they are inside their tunnels built underground. I count myself lucky for being able to do so, especially macro shots.
Hope you've enjoyed! Happy Steeming!
ants are amazing creatures so many life lessons can be learned from these little guys. Great photos
They are incredible animals are in almost all the earth, the queen lives more than another insect of the same size, you took some great pictures!
Wow, amazing photography
Nice post friend
Ants are really hard working, capturing them is a great opportunity. As not most of the photographers do macro photography and not always capture them working.
This is really a great shot!
Keep it up
