Things have gone too far, way too far. I thought it was honestly getting crazy when gender-neutral pronouns were being enforced on university campuses and workplaces, people using the terms "him" or "her" vilified for hate-speech, but this just takes the cake.
The left has well and truly lost the plot, gone off the rails, gone insane.
In Vulture, author Jesse David Fox published a story titled How Funny Does Comedy Need To Be? claiming that a new subset of comedy is emerging called post-comedy where it no longer needs to be funny.
This is not a joke
First, we let the left normalise being able to pick and choose from more genders than Skittle flavours and now the left is trying to make a concept of post-comedy a thing. The whole point of comedy is to make people laugh and this is honestly insane.
In the article, the author says:
Like Post-Rock, Post-Comedy uses the elements of comedy (be it stand-up, sitcom, or film) but without the goal of creating the traditional comedic result — laughter — instead focusing on tone, emotional impact, storytelling, and formal experimentation.
And when you think the article cannot get even worse, it then says:
The goal of being “funny” is optional for some or for the entirety of the piece.
I would say you can't make this stuff up, but Jesse clearly has and it's unnecessary. The author clearly does not understand comedy or what it is and based on the outcry from stand-up comedians themselves, not many people agree with her either.
Even stand-up comedian Joe Rogan responded, "LOL WUT" to the story on Twitter. Even comedian Chris D'Elia responded with, "Lmaooooooooooooo wut"
The crux of this situation we find ourselves in is the left are hell-bent on taking things that were normal and deconstructing them. In the case of comedy, if you take away the humour, what do you have left?
In part, the article seems to be driven off of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Nanette from Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby.
As someone who has seen the whole thing, it starts out with cliche jokes about being gay and other unfunny tidbits from an average comedian nobody had really heard of until Nanette and then half-way through it goes full rant mode.
Gadsby is one of the unelected heroes of the left movement to normalise things that would have been considered a mental illness once upon a time and vilify others for not agreeing. This is why we are seeing a worrying trend in the normalisation of paedophilia (for another time).
Hannah Gadsby's performance in Nanette highlights the problem with the left. It's aggressive and in the process typecasts straight white men and calls people out for being insensitive or cruel, it's like seeing a diary page of an angry teenager going through puberty acted out on stage.
Gadsby is untouchable from an opinion perspective. People know if you go against the left you're as good as dead in the eyes of public opinion and the court of digital law (as we've seen with Alex Jones and other conservatives being deplatformed).
The notion of such a thing as post-comedy existing just highlights the lunacy of the left and its attempt to deconstruct and strip the identity from everything that it possibly can whilst normalising things that should not be normalised.
