Dowry is another social evil which is affecting Indian society like a disease and there is no solution or treatment for this. In fact, dowry is a type of violence that is done against women. This is a special crime which is only done against married women.
What is dowry?
In ordinary words dowry can be understood as the demand of rupees or precious items by the groom's family with the bride's family instead of marrying the girl to her son. Which means the groom's family has been asked for the groom's compensation or value. Dowry practice in all the possibilities is especially exploitation of women in Indian society. Another dimension of gender inequality prevailing in our country is dowry.
In essence, this practice is based on the precepts that men are best and in their in-laws, the girl must take certain quantities of rupees or property for her protection.
Dowry practice has become an important part of our collective conscience and has been accepted by the entire society. In a way these customs have become a rule for the society, which is followed by all. The situation is that if someone does not take dowry, people start questioning him and try to humiliate him.
Due to the higher income of the bridegroom or the high level of groom's family, more demand for dowry is done. Caste also plays its role in it. Generally, the concept of high caste, high dowry is. But in recent times, the dowry system has become a comprehensive system of exploitation and only the financial condition of the groom's family is the deciding factor for dowry demand.
Origin of dowry
The origins of this social evil can be found in the wedding by the custom or tradition of gifts given to the bride, and this was a voluntary system of giving gifts which believed our religious beliefs that the duty of a girl's father is that her girl To give a part of her property to her daughter, she will have to go to another house after marriage and the son has left her father's assets Will receive Therefore, it was considered a moral duty of a father to give a part of his income or property as a gift to his daughter.
But in ancient times, this system was not a system of exploitation, where a special demand was made for the bride from the bride's family, it was a voluntary system and the bride's family made a gift according to their capacity.
But with the changing times, the arrangement for making gifts was changed into the system of exploitation of the mandatory (binding) demand by the groom's family. And this system took the form of dowry practice. In the form of a social evil, it not only insults the holy bonds like marriage but it also violates and diminishes the dignity of the woman.
Dowry or the burning of a bride
The inhuman act of murder and dowry for dowry is the result of this dowry practice. Each year, thousands of young brides are killed by the in-laws, by burning or killing them due to their ever increasing wealth and the demand for property is not fulfilled.
Stats display a dangerous increase in cases related to harassment, tyranny, incitement to suicide and related to dowry murder of young brides. In 2010 alone, more than 9,000 dowry-related killings were recorded, which shows the level of violence being followed by young brides. These murders were, in fact, emotionless murders (cruel) where a innocent girl is killed only because she can not bring wealth or property according to the demand of her husband and her relatives.
The most disturbing and unfortunate fact in this type of case is that she is the woman who plays a key role in these pre-ordained crimes and plays the role of either a man or a proactive partner in the family. And in particular the husband does not have any special respect for the marital obligation of protecting and protecting his wife.
Dowry Prohibition Act
The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1986, demanding dowry and giving dowry make both of them a punishable offense. But despite the act, the dowry system is continuing without riot and in fact it is increasing day by day.
The humiliation and hardship faced by the bride's family is very unusual. As a result, many social evils such as: female feticide and selective gender tests encourage abortions such as abortion. For this reason, the girl is always discriminated against in the house because she is considered a burden on the family and arrangement of dowry is arranged in her marriage, so the family does not feel comfortable spending her education and meal in the food.
The Dowry Prohibition Act 1986 has failed to stop the evils of dowry system and it was also behind in providing solutions to the growing crisis of dowry death. Therefore, the Parliament thought that special provisions should be made to deal with cases related to the crime of burning the bride. Therefore, through an amendment, the Indian Penal Code included a new section, section 304-B, which creates new crime "dowry death". This provision explains the elements in detail that oversees the affairs of the death of a married woman and the fact that it is received is considered as death dowry. According to the provision, for the dowry killing, any relative of husband and husband is given maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
Although this provision is also there and the information related to it is being given continuously but the rate of crime of dowry killing is not decreasing. In addition to murder, various forms of exploitation, tyranny and cruelty are displayed on helpless married women.
Due to social pressure and the fear of marriage breakdown, many such crimes are reported. Apart from this, the FIRs related to police officer dowry have not been recorded due to bribery or pressure from the side of the groom for various obvious reasons.
But unlike all these, the lack of economic self-sufficiency in women and the level of less educational is the real reason why women can not register complaints of torture or exploitation for their dowry. And such married women are forced to tolerate constant tyranny and pain for dowry with no hopeful ray.
Role of the new generation in the abolition of dowry
Dowry practice is the real problem in the entire society, which is supported and encouraged by society directly or indirectly, and in the coming time, there is no hope of a ray of improvement in this problem. Materialism is the main driving force for people and in the pursuit of modern lifestyle and comfort; People are ready to go to the extent of burning their wives or sisters and killing them.
Now the ray of hope is seen only in boys and girls of the new generation who keep educated and modern thinking. They should fight against this social evil and come face to face and if there is such an incident in their own family then they should also oppose it.
Apart from this, young brides should also oppose it, if any demand of dowry is done by her in-laws, and then the police or appropriate officials should file its complaint; They should stop themselves from becoming victims and empower themselves, because the law is already available to protect and empower them.
Otherwise, legal provisions will remain only bookwriters and they will not have any effect in reality. Well if you get interested in reading this types of articles then please upvote redeem and comments... All images are from Google just reader to get proper information thanks
