Areas of rusticity. Information of rusticities zones. .Why my favorite plant die?

in #information5 years ago (edited)

Do you think all the plants you like ... die ? Maybe this is the reason... Sometime we just dont know what plant we should chose for the weather of our city 🌇

Do you know what are the areas of rusticity? It is a variable created by the United States's agriculture 🚜 department to indicate the "rusticity" or the possibility of survival of a plant in a certain area.

With the areas of rusticity we can know what is the minimum temperature in winter🏔 (in the las years )in your city and which plant can be cultivated and survive outside ...

When we know the area of rusticity of the place we are and we know what is the minimum temperature that our plant can stand before die😷 ... can help us decide if we can have those plants or try to recreate the optimal area for the plant to develop.
Example of few zones (or numbers )of rusticity and their minimum temperatures

The greater the distance between the area of rusticity where we live and the optimal area of rusticity for the plant we want to cultivate🌵🌾🌷☘🌹 ... the harder we will have to get it for example:

If I live in a zone of rusticity 10 and I want to plant a plant whose perfection would be to be in the rusticity zone number 2 ... I will probably fail in the attempt or will be very very difficult (practically titanic effort) because there is a lot of difference between the area that I live and the area that would be perfect for the development of our plant. (basically if you have temperatures where winter reaches -8 degrees it will be difficult to have a plant that does not support temperatures below zero) 🌨

And vice versa if you see that on the street there are an average temperature of -4 degrees and inside your shed ,with its small window it, is usually around 3 or 5 degrees above zero ... you could have the plant there while cold period still so you can cheat a😜a little bit to the area of rusticity... and have such plants (which ones in theory would die abroad in this area of rusticity)

In any case, the rusticity zones are not exact science , i mean , the temperatures can be very depending on maybe the altitude, the wind, the presence of trees, the humidity of the rivers, etc.

But no one can know your city's weather better than you, Piwi,😉 You can see for yourself what the minimum or maximum temperatures of your garden are if you are in the sun or shadow area, if it is a windy area ...
