In this period Switzerland is in the middle of the wave of seasonal influence. We show you some simple measures to protect yourself and others from viruses and thus reduce the risk of infection.
Switzerland has been hit by seasonal influence this winter: according to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), viruses have begun to rage since early December and so have ruined the holiday season too many people. Here are some simple tips to protect yourself and others from being infected.

Wash away the viruses

Washing your hands is a simple and essential gesture that very often during a stressful day should be forgotten. After being out, you have to wash your hands thoroughly. Bacteria and viruses can enter our body when we touch our mouth, eyes or nose and this happens very often, from 2000 to 4000 times a day. Further information and instructions on how to properly wash your hands are available here.

Keep away

It does not seem very polite but it is necessary to: renounce social habits such as shaking hands or kissing hello if you have the flu or have had it recently. Explain to the other person why you want to keep a certain distance at the moment.

Etic!

Did you know that when you sneeze the drops remain in the surrounding air for a few minutes? You can get rid of viruses if you open the windows several times a day for 5-15 minutes. If possible, try to sneeze and cough by covering your mouth or nose with a tissue or in the absence of something else, in the fold of your elbow. The viruses also remain active for some time on the mobile phone screen, on the door handles, on the computer keyboard etc. As a result, these surfaces should be cleaned frequently.

A strong immune system

Our immune system offers the best defense against viruses and bacteria. Strengthen it with a balanced diet, lots of sleep and regular physical activity. Mucous membranes play a fundamental role because they constitute a barrier that repels pathogens. For optimal protection, they must always be kept hydrated, especially in winter, when the air is drier due to heating. So drink a lot and if necessary, also use a nasal shower with a saline solution. The solution, to be used lukewarm, disinfects the nasal cavities, dissolves the mucus and promotes breathing.
