In our language, we call it "Kendi".
A water pitcher made from land soil (pottery). One of the forgotten kitchen stuff. Recently people get used use modern water dispenser or a bottle and store it on cool storage.
Kendi will give a cool sensation in a water which store in it because of condensation process that created during the storing process.
Kendi have a longtime known by Javanese through the myth and legend.
One of the famous story was when Empu Barada split Singasari Kingdom become two Kingdom (Jenggala and Kedhiri) using this Kendi.
Empu Barada Fly over the country and pour out the water from Kendi and the water then become a river that split the Kingdom.
Magical sensation that created during store process the water in it, almost forgotten.
So with this posting, hopefully people will be reminded again to this amazing stuff.
we do have that in Pakistan as well. In summers people have these kendis installed outside there homes, so that the pedestrians can have cold water. we have big kendis which we put into the ground half-ways.
