With the issuance of new money, Bank Indonesia (BI) will also draw on certain types of banknotes and metals from circulation.
There are 28 types of money drawn BI from circulation. Most of the money drawn is the issue of the 1990s emissions year.
For people still holding money withdrawn from the circulation, BI provides an opportunity to be exchanged. For example, in December 2008 BI announced to revoke four types of denomination. First denominations of Rp 100,000 in the year of 1999 emission illustrated Soekarno Hatta on the front and picture of the House of Representatives deliberation building at the back.

BI also announced the revocation of Rp 20,000 denomination bill featuring Ki Hajar Dewantara. This money was issued in the year 1998. It can still be redeemed until December 30, 2018.
Rp 10,000 for the Rp 10,000 picture of Cut Nyak Dien is also revoked by BI. The money behind the picture of Lake Segara Anak on Mount Rinjani can still be redeemed until December 30, 2018.
