In today’s Information technology era it very hard to imagine a single day without smart phone. just imagine the situation you have just lost your smart phone. It would be a very panic situation for you not just because you have lost your phone but because of important information stored in your phone. In this post I will explain you how to block lost or stolen phone in India.
In year September 2019 Department of Telecommunication Govt. of India launched a portal to report lost and stolen phone. This new project is known as CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Registrar). In case of stolen or theft of your smart phone visit official website and provide all essential details.
While submitting request CEIR will ask you for your ID Proof (Aadhar Card/ Driving License/Voter ID etc), Invoice of Mobile and FIR copy so first file FIR at local police station then submit request. Once you successfully submitted all details CEIR will take appropriate action. CEIR will not only help you to track your phone but also block network services on your stolen phone. There are other ways to track your mobile like using your IMEI no but these service have limitation. using CEIR is best method to block lost or stolen phone in India just provide correct details and CEIR will do its job.
CEIR also have one feature which is KYM (Know Your Mobile) feature which is useful when you are buying a second hand phone. This feature is helpful to know weather old phone you are going to buy is blicklisted by CEIR.
You can do it in Three ways 1st is SMS way using this dial *#06# you will get IMEI number now go to your SMS section of your phone Type KYM <15 digit IMEI number> from your mobile and send the SMS to 14422. In 2nd method download KYM App and 3rd is web Portal. If mobile is blacklisted please do not buy that phone this mean it is a stolen phone.
if you found you hone using CEIR never forget to unblock phone you found phone with your request ID else it will be remain in blacklisted category.
Currently as mentioned above this service is currently operational for Mumbai and Delhi subscriber. I hope once it become huge success Indian government will expand to other cities so that phone theft cases will reduce across India.
