Indian railways gets new electric locomotives! As part of a 3.5billion euros 'make in India'project.Alston in a joint venture with Indian railway is manufacturing 800 electric locomotives in bihar's madhepura.these12000ph electric locomotives are dig step in the direction of reducing carbon footprint of Indian railways, especially give railway minister piyush gayal's aim to phase out diesel locomotives in the coming years .this project was awarded by modi government in 2015
As stated earlier, the WAG-12 class electric locomotives will boast of a hors-power of 12,000 andwill be able to haul up to 6,000tonnes.
Alston claims that the madhepura project will help create more than 100,000jobs in India both direct and indirect. These jods will be create in the states of Bihar,Maharashtra and uttar Pradesh
As part of the joint venture with Indian railways, Alston will also maintain the super-powered double section locomotives for a period of 11years
Side to be one of the "largest integrated green field facilities ", the madhepura railway locomotive factory is spread over 250 acres.the factary and facilities also has a testing track for the locomotives.
According to Alston,the factory has a production capacity of 120 electric locomotives per annum
Alston claims that as many as over 300engineers for both India and France were involved in designing And engineering the electric locomotives for Indian railways.
Under the project, the first few car body shells for the locomotives are being imported into India. Eventually, there will be made at the factory in madhepura
Alston is also setting up depots in Nagpur (Maharashtra) and sah
