  • India has 1650 languages - 30 of which are spoken by more than a million speakers and 122 of which are spoken by more than 10,000. There are 6 distinct language families that go beyond India. In contrast, 95% of Europe comes under a single language family. Most Indians might not know about the Austro-Asiatic Munda languages spoken in the heart of India more related to Vietnamese & Cambodian, the Tibeto-Burman languages spoken in Ladakh, Sikkim and North east and that some Dravidian languages are spoken as far away as Baluchistan.

  • India has 1200 million people. That is more than the combined population of US, Russia, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Japan, UK, Germany, Australia, Italy, Spain and New Zealand! In fact, India's population is larger than any other continent in the world, outside Asia.

  • Indian railways transports 20 million people every day on short and long distance transport.

  • The official name of our country in local languages is Bharat and written as such in all Hindi communications of the government. This name is 1000s of years old and is named after the mythical emperor of Bharat.

  • Our country India enjoys the prestigious 2nd position in terms of the total global tea production and the tea production from Assam may be attributed for this honor that India enjoys in the global tea market.

  • The world's highest cricket ground is in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. It was built in 1893 after leveling a hilltop. It is 2444 meters above the sea level.

  • India has won all the five men's Kabaddi World Cups held till now and have been undefeated throughout these tournaments. The Indian women's team has also won all Kabaddi World Cups held till date.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the PSLV-C37 rocket with 104 satellites on board, creating a new record for the most satellites on a single rocket.

  • City Montessori School (CMS) in Lucknow is the world’s Largest School in terms of pupils. It held the 2010-11 Guinness Book of World Records for the largest school. In 2016 its enrollment has reached nearly 52,000 pupils.

  • Indian Army controls the highest battle field in the world, Siachen Glacier, at 5000 metres above Sea level.
