- When I think of forest land in India, I have a perception as if more than 50% of land is covered with forest and india might be the one with lots of forest land inspite of dense population.
- This really shocked me when I read that India has only 21.53% of geographic area covered with forest.
While it's a relaxing fact even after exploding population of India the it is increasing with a very slow rate as the growth in forest land recorded last year was only 0.21%. - However it's also a sad fact that a target to reach 33% forest area was set in 1998 which is yet to be accompnished.
- I believe that the "nadi abhiyaan" by sadguru will help increasing this percentage even more.

Thanks for sharing.
The primary forces causing tropical deforestation and forest degradation can be tied to economic growth and globalization and to population growth. Population growth drives deforestation in several ways, but subsistence agriculture is the most direct in that the people clearing the land are the same people who make use of it.
