Jayavel is a 22 year old student of Cambridge University. His background is a little different to most at the prestigious university though.
Jayavel and his family moved from Nellore to Chennai after a crop failure on their farm. They came to the city in search of an income. As is the case for a lot of families in this situation begging became the only real option and way of earning a living. They would sleep on pavements or around shops and when it would rain they would find somewhere sheltered until the police moved them out. This wasn't the extent of his families troubles. Jayavels father died and then his mothered fell to alcoholism. Soon most of their earnings was being spent on booze.
Things were not going well for Jayavel at all until he me film makers and NGO - Suyam Charitable Trust, directors Uma and Muthuraman. They were making a new film called "Pavement Flower" when they came across the young beggar. Naturally Jayavel and his family were suspicious of the couple as many opportunists try to use people like them as a means to getting government grants under the guise of providing charity.
Eventually trust was built up and they got to know each other well. Through their NGO Jayavel was given an education and actually managed to pass the Cambridge entrance exam after doing brilliantly in grade 12 exams. He has also been offered a place studying Performance Car Enhancement Technology Engineering at Glendwr University Wales.
