Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. The little girl is now turning into a grandma but it is sad to see her attain that stage with so much regrets. Independence is a good thing, at least for those who can take care of themselves. You know when a child attains 18 years of age, it is expected that the child starts living alone because they feel the child should be able to handle it. More often than not, some children can’t handle it.

Yesterday, Nigeria celebrated her independence. It has been 58 years and it was met with mixed feelings actually, at least by me anyway. I can only speak for myself. Nigeria got her independence in 1960 from the colonial masters and it was a moment of pure joy and excitement I can assume. The long anticipated self-administration we seek and desire finally came to fruition.

Let’s take a look into some historic moments of Nigeria. When we know the history of a place, we tend to appreciate it better and also better judge what it was to what it is presently.

The Nigerian flag was designed in 1959 and it was finally and officially put up in 1960. Mr. Taiwo Akinkunmi designed this wonderful flag that has three vertical bands of Green, White and Green, with each colour representing something unique about Nigeria. The two greens represent our “Natural wealth” as a nation while the white symbolizes “Peace”.

Nigeria is blessed with lot of natural resource and the question remains the same while the answer is eternally variable; are we making judicious use of these resources? What is happening to the proceeds? Are we really harnessing these resources to their optimum level? That answer shouldn’t be far-fetched but those in authority will tell you otherwise.

I can only imagine if some other countries of the world are as blessed as we are, they would be competing at the international stage and their citizens would be living in affluence and commanding influence. The problem with Nigeria is human factor and it has nothing to do with anything else. Only us can make the change we desire to see.

…to be continued…

Thank you for your time.

Everyone do says "i am the change Nigerian needs" but things do changes when we are in powers and thats the politicians.

Nigeria is now 58 but yet still a kid that cant stand on her own

Absolutely, 58 and still a kid. Quite discouraging and unfortunate but we won't lose hope. We need to become better humans first, only then can we make the best of decisions to push Nigeria to a greater height.

Nigerian Independence Day, which took 58 years as Nigeria attained independence in the 1960s, but sadly, there is no scope to understand that at present, they have attained independence 58 years ago. There is a saying that it is very difficult to defend independence rather than achieve independence .

Brilliant. We are really struggling to defend that independence. It is so surprising to see that we actually attained independence 58 years ago. 58 years is quite a lot of years and still we are so consumed with selfishness and greed. So sad.

Welcome to the First Happy Independence Day Nigeria When a person completes 18 years of his life, he can return to his own freedom and walk on his own pace, but not everyone can do it. Not everyone gets their independence again, just after independence, he returns to his own independence, but all the countries Can not

Thank you. Always appreciated.

Freedom means free of pressure. Freedom means we are free to breath, free to choose the religion, we are free to go anywhere.

Being Patriotic is great feeling and thats why i saw this post from @olawalium. Happy Independence Day dear 👍
I see to many similarity between nigeria and india..we too having 3 different color and green and white being common. The symbolic reason of naultural resource and peace is same. Also the political turmoil condition within tye country is same too

Wow!. It is good to see some similarities in resources and symbolic image of both countries. We all clamour for better leaders with a heart to serve, and not a heart to loot. I know we will both get there.

Thanks a lot, my friend. Good to read from you.

There are many similarity..even from the colonial days...both the country get exploited a lot and at the same point got indepedence after hard fought struggle....so we need to cherish and respect each part of it

Absolutely. When we understand our rich history, we tend to view things differently. We have it in our hands now, we need to do better with what has been entrusted in our care. Thanks a lot, my friend.
