imagetalk #3 – Rebuild this City on Cash Flow!

As I said, next stop for #imagetalk is decay. I shot this image in Freiburg (Germany). Freiburg is a historic and very touristic city. It does much for his reputation as “green” and “fair”. Never the less this is just the half of the truth. Money seems to be the only driving force in this city. So it came, that Freiburg does a lot for his estate agents and land values but less for his families and children. I shot this image in 2015, when an old building was demolished for a new one. Alone this process is not unusual nor reprehensible. Sadly the city lost the chance for a change. Today there is a commercial building with more space for more money to make. It's a symbol for many places in town and the fact where the image has its name from.

With today’s knowledge I would do much things different in this capture. Never the less the black and white finish fits well to the documentary character. It is what photography sometimes has to be - a political documentation.
