There was no plan to tell you about this particular project but needed an illustration about silence because I am going to the Art of Living silence and meditation program today and will be there untill this week ends.
Being in deep silence for few days is an amazing experience when you can just be with yourself in the nature outside of a city just observing everything doing nothing. I will not be able to post or comment anything. And I don't want to do it. Want my mind to relax. But I hope to try schedule posting in eSteem application so you might continue reading new illustration stories here this week. I can write more about silence course after getting back home if you want. I love this yoga practice a lot. It brings back childhood feelings when you have no patterns in your mind starting a day without a single thought just watching how everything is beautiful in this world...
Road Safety
According to some stats from The National Safety Council using cell phone is the reason of 1.6 million crashes each year.
- Nearly 330,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving.
- 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.
- Texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk.
- 11 teens die every day as a result of texting while driving.
That was the main reason behind creating these social ads. It was an order from Emirates agency. But how to create an awareness for the drivers not to use their social networks while driving? They had really strange and violent idea to draw Facebook, Twitter and Blackberry like characters sitting on the driver's seat with their mouths tied up. For some reason many people from that reason asking me to draw such a darky things for advertisements. I wanted to take this order because of the good budget but had to soften final illustrations. I don't like to draw violence actually.
God, they've sent me this sketches and said you know, we've tried hard with different illustrators but we don't like the result too much. Lol, what? A bird with the beak sewed together? Facebook guy with the mouth gag? Is it an advert to join some terrorist's clan?
I've tried to keep the main idea but move far away from this awful perception. Came out with this sketches asking them to remove gags and knits but to use a silence gesture. I guess it was the only way here.
Anyway they've pushed me to do their initial variants with my small suggestions. I hope it became less aggressive my way though I don't think this is super good as social adverts still I am glad to have this work in my portfolio.

Hello, @dunsky xD
You have very catchy illustrations today: cute and nasty at the same time. Really dig them. I think people want you to do some mix with horror genre, because your unique style will give it next level of 'cool' and 'spiciness' xD.
As for the ad itself, I 100% support the cause of it, because I have witnessed enough of fatal car accidents in my life. But, I think one picture ad isn't the most effective way/format to promote the awareness. Moreover, the real problem was totally missed: it's not Facebook, Twitter etc. It's the usage of mobile phone while driving, that can lead to such consequences.
When I look at illustration #1 and #2, the first thing that comes to my mind is the suppression of free speech on these platforms. Because a man with Facebook logo and a birdie that resemble the Twitter logo are strapped to a chair and silenced with a duct tape and a string. I think them having theirs arms on top of a steering wheel and some minimal car interior would definitely help a bit. At least we would know it's a car and not some other place. Furthermore, I think that words in the 'cloud' quote should be way bigger, not only because I had to put my glasses on just to read it, but also because it's the main message of the whole ad.
You can say: "Man, If you are such a smart ass, give us an idea, how it should be done". Ok, no problem xD I'm not always about negativity and criticism. For example. Why not add a baby on a passenger seat and place a smartphone in its hands + add some slogan like: "Let a baby play with your phone, while you drive. You'll be definitely safer". Or if you want to be really mean - wrap a car around a tree, like some sort of snake, or just place a car on some big branch, put a phone in drivers hands, give a driver some scared look and finish it with: "Don't drive and text. Or you'll end up on a tree". These are just few ideas that came right away.
However, If you really want to make a difference, I think a small video would be the perfect format for such a campaign. Here is a very powerful one:
Hope you aren't fed up with me, @dunsky. Will be waiting for your next post :)

Love the work dude.
Thank you!
hmmm, that's a pretty challenging concept to depict... but it caught my attention, so its a success! you did a great job softening the silencing method lol. The sketches with the finger covering the mouth are definitely more appealing...
At the same time, in order to be effective, ads like these need to be a bit shocking to leave a lasting impression.
Anyway, thank you for sharing your work! its always fascinating.
Thank you very much! Yes, I agree with you, shock is good working method as well. The only thing for European eye was I thought it was too much. Maybe that initial versions worked for Arabian world more...
lol, sadly, i see what you mean... yeah.
