Miami, luxury cars flee Irma in the Porsche tower

in #hurricane7 years ago

Boasting an enhanced structure to counter hurricanes, the Porsche tower in Miami attracts billionaires who want to put their luxurious cars in the shelter in this building where everything is designed for car enthusiasts.

After having sheltered as much as possible his lodging, his family, his pets in the face of the risks represented by the hurricane Irma, it is possible also to worry about his Porsche or his Ferrari. This is in any case what is happening in Miami as the American site The Real Deal notes. The city has a 60-story Porsche tower where each dwelling is serviced by an automated elevator to park its favorite car in the living room (or in the basement if it really holds, but it is less chic) .

Another peculiarity of this very high-profile building of 132 units: the tower was designed to withstand the most violent hurricanes, up to category 5 such as Irma. Under these conditions, the place begins to attract those who want to protect cars whose price is in millions of dollars. "It's really the best place for billionaires to allow them to put their toys in this kind of situation," says Gil Dezer, the developer who designed the premises.

A 15 million dollars bolide

For example, one of the city's leading luxury car importers, Brett David, was stationed in tower 10 of its more than $ 5 million vehicles, including a precious Ferrari and a Pagani Zonda, posted at $ 15 million. The developer did the right thing, not hesitating to install additional pumps in the building to avoid flooding and a 24-hour dedicated team to track down possible water infiltration.

Only ten residents permanently occupy the premises. The pools that occupy each balcony have already been half-emptied and should not be a problem. Despite its height, the tower should not be an easy prey for Irma. It is intended to oscillate under the influence of violent wind and the more one climbs into the building the more oscillations can be strong in order to better collect the gusts. The effectiveness of the architecture of the premises can be quickly tested.
