How I peel a Pomegranate in 5 easy steps

in #howto8 years ago (edited)

There is this misconception that Pomegranates are hard to deseed. I will tell you, that is a tremendous bullshit.

Believe me, pomegranates are an easy fruit to eat. You only need to follow this 5 steps and you will get your pomegranate arils ready to eat, in no time.

Step 1

Score the skin 1cm from the top of the pomegranate. With the help of the knife remove the lid. Be gentle! Try not to damage the pomegranate arils.

Step 2

With the lid off, you will have access to the top layer of pomegranate arils. Pomegranates usually have a star shape and around the star there will be the small pods full of colorful juice. All you need to do is to score the skin vertically next to the white membranes that form the star.

Step 3

Separate each of the pomegranate parts with your thumbs. Again. Be gentle! You don’t want to end up with a mushy pomegranate.

You might want to do this step inside a bowl. Otherwise, if you are like me, you will end up with pomegranate arils all over the place.

Step 4

Gently pull apart each aril to a bowl. Don’t apply too much pressure. I also like to eat them straight from the pomegranate. At this step they will easily get of the skin.

Step 5

Enjoy!

Pomegranates are delicious and full of antioxidants. They are also a good source of Vitamins C and K.

Now that you know, my 5 easy steps there is no excuses to not try eating Pomegranates.
