Are you a Solutions Architect, Business Analyst or Enterprise Architect? - So why Enterprise Architecture Modelling?
What the heck is this a picture of, I hear you ask?
What is it used for?
Why is this at all useful?
Well if you have a few minutes let me answer this for you.
Lets start with WHY.
Simply put if you are a Business Analyst , Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, Program or Portfolio Manager, you will be the ant's pants, bees knees or the poo. Excuse the dad puns. IF you create enough of these models and stick them together. When I say stick them together, I mean use a drawing tool that creates a database of all of the relationships between the different components in the picture. Why because you will see the impacts of change across your change portfolio. Then you will have massive credibility with your stakeholders. We all want to gain credibility with our stakholders, Right?
Let me give you an example on how powerful this can be. Do you remember putting together model cars when you were a kid? Why prototype cars? Well if you build a scale model and you put it in a wind tunnel you will see how the car performs under certain wind conditions. This gives the engineer data to work with when it comes time to test out the car at full scale. Well like the car prototype or model gives the engineer insight into how the car performs so does one of these enterprise architecture models or bunch of pictures stuck together.
Who does it give insight to? Well if you are a Business Analyst and you have to understand what the impact on your customer is going to be for a proposed solution these Enterprise Architecture models give you the insight. So you see you will be able to give back to your customer the honest science behind your proposal. This helps you build credibility as a professional. It gives you as a practitioner the insight needed to help make a knowledgeable decisions. Very powerful stuff.
The good news is this diagram of things has a specific language that tells you how to connect all the dots of your Enterprise. When I say enterprise architecture I mean, business, data, application and technology architecture . The language is called Archimate 3.0.
I'll stop with all the explanations now and just point you to my video. It is easier to consume.

If you like this post give me a vote and I'll add some more. I can teach you how to speak the language.
Interestingly it is part of a certification that over ~70,000 professionals on the planet possess.
Thanks for your time.
Kind Regards
