How to know if you have enjoyed your youth?

in #howto7 years ago

Years ago, when I was a Calculus teacher assistent, I would pause for about 5 minutes to talk to my students about the "10 things you should do to enjoy your university life" ... I also have done it as a teacher and if they told me to summarize those 10 things in 3 tips to see if you have enjoyed (or are enjoying) your youth, it would be like this:

1. You have enjoyed the process

One of my greatest regrets has been to have lived many years valuing the opinion of others more than mine. Since I was a teenager I wanted to attend disguised as my favorite heroes to anime and movie conventions. However, the fear of what they will say and the agenda full of "more important and urgent" things made it postpone years and years.

After my 23 years I decided to make my own costume! I remember that I made a Spartan soldier costume that had a magnetic brooch coat, a sword reinforced with its cover, a shield with special handles to carry it even on the back (I felt I was making a better suit than Ironman! Hahaha) I wore it at a convention with even the support of my mother (just the fact of helping me to bring the costume and appreciating something that was important to me was a very beautiful gift).

Dear reader ... If you are reading this and deep down you would like to do something crazy but you have not dared ... please ... do not make the same mistake as me by postponing it and postponing it ... Now is the time! :-D

2. You have grown as a person

One of the crudest and most thoughtful phrases that my big sister has told me was "You know something?... I did three postgraduate studies ... and today I would be happier if I had studied a second or third language instead". This I want to point out because in today's world, one of the greatest regrets of people is not having graduated from university ... I will be honest, the academic titles have their value but the most important thing is and always will be THE KIND OF PERSON IN WHAT YOU HAVE CONVERTED!

If during your youth by any means you achieved an admirable personal growth, you met incredible people, you lived enriching experiences, you enjoyed incredible books that brought out the best in you and you could add life to others with your skills and knowledge about what you love (like the drawing, music, cooking, mechanics, photography ...) Wou, you have become someone who worths gold!

3. You have loved

When we say "enjoy the youth" we think of a music video where everything are excesses and next day regrets. Maybe part of that is worth living, I just invite you to ask yourself: Would you call someone a friend who leaves when the beers are over?

Something that cost me to understand to share with others is that what matters most is not the place, nor the expenses... it is the people, the sincere joy, the shared laughter, the complicity that only occurs between people who they are happy to see others happy and that can be lived being fully present when we share with the people we love, being in a cafe, in the subway, on a birthday, in the middle of a bad dayt, in a hospital, after an exam or wherever!

I must confess that love also suffers, I have also cried for a woman, I have been disappointed of my friends and I have bothered with my family ... But when you are constant and you stand up forgiving and learning in each fall, love goes little by little melting the mud of hatred and your soul is feeling freer! (weeeell ... the corny moment hahaha)

Finally, I can only invite you to give me your vote if you liked the post or it made you think and if you want, leave me in the comments ... What do you think is the most important thing to do on our youth? ... Thus we will share moments that make us smile from inside!

A hug, guuys! :-D
