I've tried many a technique. The wrapper is superglued on. Appreciate the tip though, I'll try again. I think I have one more.
You may have candy canes that have gotten too warm or humid. Once the cane inside gets sticky again, the wrapper becomes more of an integral skin.
I think you are a candy cane expert. I tried your technique this morning. Nope. Same messy result. It's all good though. I'm done for a year with them.
