Once upon a time there was an old wood cutter. He used to go to the forest to cut wood and then to the nearby town to sell it.Whatever he earned,he used to bring food for himself and for his wife. They lived all alone as they did not have any children. As he was very old,he could not cut much wood,ad a result he earned very less money and hardly met the expenses.
One day he was cutting branches of trees on the bank of a river Unfortunately, his axe fell into the river. The poor man made a thorough search for it but all in vain.He was penniless person,so he could not Purchase a new axe,and it was the only tool he used for his livelihood. He began to weep be bitterly.
Beside that river, there lived a kind fairy as well. When she heard his cries she felt pity for the old man. She came to the wood cutter and asked him.
"Why do you weep so bitterly?"
What should I do? I am a very poor person,I cannot buy another. And it was the only tool that I had, to earn livelihood"The old man replied.
The fairy said to him:
"Don't worry!I can bring your axe for you"
Saying this she dived into the water and after a while she appeared with a golden axe and asked him.
"I think this is yours, take it"
When the old man saw the golden axe. he thought that he should take it/Because he could have sold it in the market and could be rich But he was an honest person so he replied.
"No good fairy, it is not mine"
They fairy jumped down into the water again and brought a sliver axe.
"Is it Yours? said the fairy.
"No, it is not mine.Mine was not so white. It was of black colour. It was my only bread giver."Said the wood cutter in tears.
The fairy jumped into the water again for third time and brought brightened at the sight of his own axe. He exclaimed with joy:
"O! it is mine! O my benefactor! It is mine, Thank you very much thank you very much"
The fairy told him.
"Wait hones man, here for a moment"
And the fairy dived into the water and brought both the golden and the silver axes and gave it to the old man and said:
"I am so pleased with your honesty. So take these all. They are now yours, keep them with you as a gift.
The old man accepted both the axes as gift and gladly thanked her.
Following day he went to the nearby town and sold out both the axes and earned a lot of money. And he lived rest of his life happily.
