Little Known Herbs: Skullcap & Marsh Mallow

In my pursuit of healthier living and not being dependent on prescription medications for my anxiety, depression and Meniere's Disease, I have been researching many herbs. Many new to me herbs. Herbs I had never heard of before, or even considered to grow and use in my herbal sweet tea concoctions.

Today I want to share with you two more herbs and plants I have found then planted earlier in the year for a harvest/bloom next season.

Skull Cap

I wish I could show my own plant but until next year, this will have to do.

The reasons I chose Skull Cap to add to my perennial herb garden are as follows:

  • Anxiety
  • Anti-inflammatory and pain relief
  • Eases nervous tension and helps with nervous system
  • Reduces insomnia
  • Possible weight loss assistance when implemented with a proper diet

While there are more ailments that Skull Cap can help with according to WebMD, the reasons I listed above are the ones I am focusing on.

Marsh Mallow

Such a delicate looking flower and I'll be honest here... I never knew that this plant/flower/herb existed. Never knew the roots were used to make certain (expectorant) syrups.

My reasons for growing Marsh Mallow are as follows:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) - which I suffer from and had a hiatal hernia and stomach displacement surgery done in 2013
  • Possible weight loss

Here WebMD lists more uses for Marsh Mallow.

Happy Thursday Everyone!
