"Sink my toes in some soil rather than stubbing them on the concrete." I couldn't sum it up any better. I was born in the 50's, when so many folks were trying to get away from the land and become "civilized". I lived that life for many decades but it never felt quite right to me. Even in the city I used what land I had to grow a garden and plant fruit trees.

I'm so grateful to be back in the country, in charge of my own life. Raising and growing my own food is huge part of that.

I live in a very small town of just over 1000 people. I was so excited to see that our school received a grant to build a test kitchen and teach our youth about safe canning practices. That's certainly a step in the right direction.
