Homesteaders & Preppers on steemit - visiting everyone on the list to say hello and leave a little gift

in #homesteading7 years ago

The master list of homesteaders and preppers on steemit has now reached 283, up 5 from version 11 that was posted just before Christmas.

It is good to see a continual healthy growth of homesteaders and preppers on the platform.

However something that has been increasingly worrying me of late is how many on the list are still active.

I have done cursory inspections as has @goldendawne and we have found quite a few that are no longer active on steemit.

Inspired by my ongoing project to visit all my 900+ followers, I am going to do a virtual tour of all the homesteaders and preppers on the list to record their status.

I will visit each account in turn, leaving a message for those that are not currently active, and also placing an upvote of at least 10% on anyone that has an appropriate post from the last seven days. I will also check my follow status - I generally follow everyone on the list that is active.

I expect it will take me a week or so to get round all 283 accounts. I will report at the end with the activity statistics.

Because someone has not posted in the past month doesn't mean they have gone for ever. It is not unusual for people to return to steemit after taking a break for whatever reason.

I'm hoping my little messages might persuade a few at least to get active on steemit again.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on my virtual tour in the coming days.

For reference these are the members on the current master list. If you know anyone that should be there that isn't please do let me know in the comments below or on Discord.

Happy New Year, @pennsif! I find I have been so busy curating that I am running out of time to post. I want to post more and cut back on some of the curating. I read and comment on about 120 to 150 post a day. Plus try to write and work on the homestead. Holidays have set me back a little as I had the family here for Christmas. All the best for the New Year and I hope to see more of your posts too.

That is one mega amount of curation you are doing @cecicastor. Good work!

Thanks, @pennsif!

Hi guys still kicking around .... been working on the boat lots so not a lot of extra time .... but I always check in to see whats new ..... cheers .....

120 to 150 posts a day. That's a lot of hard work. I am spending time on steemit since 6 long hours. All i could manage was to comment on around 25 posts.

You get faster at reading and typing comments the more you do it. I also put in very long days.

This is a noble mission you are on! I am not sure if I am on the master list but I have been interacting with @goldendawne a lot - she has been a great help and mentor! I am only 2 weeks old on here and have plans for more detailed content. Thank you again for your hard work!

You're welcome!!! Glad I could help you!

Hi Jon, good to meet you. I have now added you to the list.

I am guessing you are connected with @twinislandflames ?

yes indeed, we are quite connected! i'd love to be added as well, as there's a focused effort for unique content from each of us. thanks so much

Hi @twinislandflames, you are on the list now as well. I look forward to reading posts from both of you.

Is a pleasure to meet you also @pennsif ! I am so glad to be a part of this community! And YES, I am very much connected to @twinislandflames - <3

Thanks for adding me to the list, I'll try to get a post up this week for my return :)

I will look forward to the post. Us homesteaders in the UK are rather few and far between.

Following in eager anticipation @notquiteafarm from a nutty Yorkshire bloke ;)

Oo, Oo, Oo!!! I'm still here! ;)
[frantically waving my hand in the air] LOL

Hi @eggmeister - you are still on the list. Only 9 of us in the UK...

Cheers buddy,
Sorry, I was having a daft one yesterday LOL.
Well, the sherry won't drink itself ;)

9 is a little low for the UK, steemit needs to spread like wildfire.

I'm interested. What are the requirements?

Hi @phedizzle, I see you are interested in permaculture. And you make Kimchi 😊

That is good to go. I have added you to the list.

Awesome! Thanks What do I do now besides post on topic once a week?

You might want to join the Homesteaders Discord server to network with other like-minded people...

Cheers to all!

Hi there Bobby, thank you for dropping by.

@pennsif Can you add @jjay and @tdre to the list. I think you overlooked our earlier comment or we didn't get our mention in before you updated the list.

Thanks and great work =)

Hi @jjay, sorry missed the previous comment. You are now both on the list.

Are you both in the USA?

Thanks! We're semi-nomadic—but, yeah, we're both from the states.

Hi,
I joined the Discord "Homesteaders Online" but I don't see my name in the list below. Please be so kind as to add it. A big thanks to @pensif and @goldendawn for a heroic effort.

Hi @yulem, the Discord server runs on a separate list. I have now added you to the list of Homesteaders and Preppers on steemit. You will appear in the next edition of the list that will be posted in a week or two.

I notice you have an online shop selling jewelry etc. Have you thought about taking steem payments for that?

Thank you,
I'm in the process of migrating my store from osCommerce to Prestashop. When that's complete I would have no problem taking steem as payment.

Thank you, @pennsif, for the initiative to build a stronger homesteading commuinty. Please add @cheneats to the list. Thank you!

You are now on the list. Are you in the USA?

Thank you! Yes, I am in the USA. I have updated my profile :-)

I love this, and the community aspect is why I joined. Newbie minnow here. I'd love to be added to the list of homesteaders and preppers.

Hi @schoonercreek, you are now on the list. Welcome to steemit.

Have you considered steem payments for your textiles you sell? They do look very beautiful.

@pennsif Hello and thank you! I would like to learn about that. I'm very open to suggestions as to how to do that!

Wow that is a big task you are undertaking! I think things like this will help to retain some members and keep them writing on steemit. The more ideas and perspectives we can have on here the better. Best of luck and have a Happy New Year!

Thank you. I hope it works!

I think it is great that you check in on inactive homesteaders. It is good to know how they are..hopefully well! It is a bummer when you read a great post and then go to follow them and they haven't posted in 3 months.

Yes it is sad when people drop away... the door is always open for them to return.

Oh yeah! As I am trying to introduce others to Steemit they like the idea, but don't view it as real because they don't understand it. Even other newbs like us that have not cashed out anything still don't see the bigger idea and often back burner steemit for other sites.

Come on by! Ill have coffee (or tea?) ready!

I'll be along soon...

How do I get on this list? I am in homesteadersonline in discord...
Very cool, all that you are doing! :)

Hi Nichole, you are now on the list. Welcome aboard!

Cool beans! LOL Thanks!

Very sociological! I'll look forward to the results - will be constructing a spreadsheet? If so you may as well 'enhance' the whole project and record info about country, Vests.... well you know, the more the merrier... it'd make for a great infographic if you ran it through Tableau.

I'm sure it's possible to automate all of this somehow too, just beyond my coding capability, which is just about 0 btw!

I'm going to do something similar to this but for 'Brits in the SE' and for 'sociological thinkers' too. Medium to long term projects.

Yes I do gather some extra data about country etc, but it takes time to do it manually.

At some point it might be worth automating but for the moment this is a one off. Progress depends on my time and my voting power available.

Good luck with the Brits in the SE - I use to be over that way originally. Are there many steemians around there?

I know of two (outside of London, I don't count London) - I'm going to do a shout out at some point - but not until I've got a few more decent posts under my belt - I've got a bit too obsessed with understanding how this site works over the XMAS post and need to stop just posting posts on steemit which are about steemit....

Do you mind if I follow in your footsteps and repeat your project btw - it's such a good idea! I'll give you full credit in every post of course! And it would be a good test of reliability.

I might knock up a future post about the whole sociological methodological side of things - it's extremely interesting - qualitative analysis versus purely quants!

P.S. I don't imagine starting off was that productive, if your 'a' followers look like mine...

Thank you for this awesome list!! Just upvoted...and in the nick of time before the 7th day! haha. Also following you now. :)

Hi Beau, that's great thank you. Glad you have made it over to steemit. I used to follow you and Kelly on Youtube when I used to go there.

How is the new Canon camera going? I really want to try doing some video, not sure if that would be too ambitious a camera to start with?

I am an artist and a homesteader, how do I get on the list ;) This seems like a fun project to keep the list going.

I have added you to the master list. What part of the world are you in?

Oh wow, Thank you! I'm in the north east of usa coastal New England

Happy New Year!🎉🎉

Thank you.

Wow! you joined just 6 months ago? This much success in 6 months is remarkable. Before reading this post and before looking at your stats i was thinking it is going to take me ages to build a status on steemit.

I have spent a lot of hours on steemit - probably around 8 hours a day on average.

That's quite an endeavour.
Thanks for taking the time!
