Who on here has ever heard of the acronym SHTF? Or as we like to call it when the stuff hits the fan. You can change the S to what ever you would like. But I bet a lot of you if not all of you have heard of that saying right?
There are so many videos that ask: What would you do in a SHTF situation and you had to cook for your family? But you have no electricity or gas to cook with! OH NO NOT THAT! Then they show you how to cook in a Dutch oven outside using charcoal that is meant for your BBQ grill! I’m like really people! If it is a real SHTF situation do you really think that you will be able to run out and buy that stuff? On top of that how many of you preppers out there have thought to stock pile charcoal? I mean really if you have to bug out are you really going to take bags of that stuff with you?
Alright so there is my rant for the day. So now I am going to tell you what we like to do all the time. The reason is because for one it is fun and also it helps keep the heat out of the house!
It’s very simple we just use sticks that are lying around on the ground and put them in our fire pit. The fire pit is nothing more than some rocks that we have found on our place. We just stacked them up and there you go a fire pit! We then light the sticks of fire and keep adding to them. We will do this until we feel like we have enough coals to cook what we want. When our sticks are turning into coals we start getting our food ready. We cook a lot in Dutch ovens because it’s so easy! Just set it and then forget it! Well forget it for about an hour that is. Then you have a wonderful meal for the whole family!
We just want people to know that if a SHTF situation ever did come up or if they found them self’s having to find another way to cook. There are so many different ways out there to do it when it comes to cooking.
I think that the people that do their videos on Dutch oven cooking and only show using charcoal and try to tell you that is the only way to do it. If you don’t give any information to us about other ways are not helping people. Or they really just don’t know of other ways all they know is what they seen in a video.
Start thinking of other ways of doing things now. Look around and see what other resources you have around you to use. If something ever did happen shopping would end really fast. Something we like to keep in mind is, you can only stock up so much and it will only last so long. So start looking around for what is available in nature.
