Oh yeah?? I'm hoping to set up another pen of some sort to do Coturnix for quicker turn around. The bobwhites are so slow growing. I appreciate that but it doesn't feel very sustainable. Do you have other quail too?
I've never really found integrating new quail to problematic, unlike chickens. As long as there is room for them to get out of each others way if needed, it doesn't usually get to aggressive. You do get the odd aggressive quail in the Japanese, but I had no problems at all with the Bobwhites. I figure the aggressive ones get to be the first to go to the pot!😉
I already had issues with some of the adults I have pecking one of the other's head bloody. He was in ICU for a while healing. So far so good since, though.
I haven't had much issue with chickens... (yet) Hmmm. We might need to teach each other our ways! hahaha
My chickens are in rather close quarters, so I'm a bit more cautious when I introduce knew ones. Having said that, since the ISA browns have gone, I've never had quite the same integration issues.
Ah I don't have those kinds of chickens. Are they a little more hardcore than others? More mean? I mean, chickens are already kind of jerks to begin with. Haha I definitely wouldn't want even more mean ones! Haha
I could understand having more issues in tighter quarters for sure! I think free ranging helps my situation a ton!
ISA browns are sweet enough towards people, but nasty to new comer chickens! It took me about two months to get some sort of equilibrium with them when the news ones came in.
I need to sort out my quail now they're in season and take out the excess males. I've got a female with a bald patch already. She must be the pretty one! Lol!
So I was reading that some people watch who they pair with... and separate in that manner... Do you watch that closely? I honestly cannot tell the difference between my males! Hahaha

Thanks for stopping by!!!
I only have Japanese now. They are very fast turn around, prolific layers, but short lived.
Yes, that is exactly why I want to get the Coturnix also! :D
Oh, do you have any suggestions on integrating new quail with the older quail? I have some youngins that should go outside at the end of the month.
