FINALLY - WE GET TO MILK OUR OWN GOAT!

We had experience with some other goats, but this is the first time milking our own!

It seems that many "chores" around the homestead are much more enjoyable when animals are involved. In the past, getting some milk involved a car ride, a store, and some money. Now, it is a walk, a goat, and some fun! Enjoy the photos, and we'll enjoy the lifestyle!

MILKING GOAT, AWESOME

Thanks! They really liked it!

beautiful photos and brave children. It's good to try drinking milk directly without the fermentation process.
continue to work friends

Fresh goat milk, but honestly never knew there was a goat that produces milk.

Oh yeah, it is pretty common and popular in certain areas! We are just glad to have our own!

I like your photos and posts

I've had my goats for 2 years and have yet to milk them haha so I'm really excited to be getting into it this year myself! Your kids look so happy so does the goat! Lovely photography ^_^

Wow! Hopefully you get there. We've had this one about three months!

Yes I've been following :P I had to move my entire homestead twice in the span of a year so I've just been too busy. You have to milk them every single day from what I've learned. Can't skip or it will cause issues.

I can’t imagine how fortunate the little-peppers as early as their age they now know how to milk a goat!!Happy homesteaders!

Thank you! We are all very happy about it!

beautiful pictures

Good job to the Little pepper cuties.

I'm having such great time checking out your posts. Thank you:)

Looks like more fun adventures on the homestead. We love you!

As a suggestion, [teaching you how to suck eggs]
Imagine a soft drinking straw, surrounded by flesh/meat of the correct size/shape to be a teat. The milk will flow into the top of the straw automatically, and there is a one-way valve at the bottom that is trying to hold the milk in and everything else out.
Try holding the hand, semi clenched, [join thumb and forefinger, then part them], place the hand with the thumb/forefinger just touching the udder.
Close the thumb/forefinger to prevent the milk in the teat returning to the udder, then progressively close middle, ring, little finger onto the palm, thus forcing the milk down the teat and into the bucket.
Relax the hand, allowing the milk to flow down the teat, and repeat until not much milk is coming out with each squeeze.
This will take a fair bit of practice to get right, but practice makes perfect.
Then to "strip" [get as much as you can] close the thumb and forefinger either side of the teat, close to the udder.
Holding the teat between these two bring the hand down to force the milk out of the end of the teat. Repeat until you get nothing.
With practice, you will be able to use two hands at the same time on diagonally opposite teats, Swap pairs when the flow decreases and notice how much the production increases during the pause.
Likewise with stripping,
