The ability to be self sufficient is really undervalued in todays modern society. It has become too easy for the public to get any type of fruit or vegetable anytime of year from the local grocery store, we've become spoiled as a society.
Being able to provide resources for your own family, through your own effort can be very satisfying. I remember growing up our family had a vegetable garden. Nothing spectacular maybe 30 x 20 as the dimensions, growing potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas and a few other things.
