Medicine Making: Colloidal Silver

Making medicines is one way that we stay connected to our landscape in these disconnected days. I love the days where I can walk the forest and pastures to collect herbs for turning into tinctures, infused oils, and for drying. The act of making medicine is itself good medicine for the soul.

Another form of medicine making that I value is making colloidal silver. Silver is a time tested way to fight infection and bacteria growth. This silver and water solution has been used on my farm for year and within my family for decades. It only made sense for me to then invest in a colloidal silver generator.

Join me today as I make colloidal silver…

My silver generator is a SilverGen and has a few great features. It stirs the water which helps ensure the machine doesn’t shut off prematurely (thinking the water is already at the right silver level). It has LED lights to show you the machine is on and to show you when the poles have reversed. The entire thing shuts off on its own when the silver solution is completed.

Here’s how I make colloidal silver…

First, I fill a mason jar with high quality distilled water (yes…it needs to be distilled). I then place the generator onto the opening of the jar and plug in the machine.

The first red light will come on when I plug it in. Then I set the dial to how strong I want the solution. Stronger is better for me (as it requires less to be consumed at a time), however it will make the silver rods wear out faster.

When I turn the machine on, the stirrer in the middle starts spinning. Then the red and green light starts alternating, indicating that it is working.

I leave the colloidal silver going until the entire machine shuts off and stops stirring.

I then bottle the colloidal silver and bring it out as I need to fight off infections, treat the animals (chickens, sheep, pigs, cattle, ducks, geese…humans) when they are ill, or I can boil off the water leaving on the silver powder and add that to a salve for topical use.

Silver is a solution of nano particles of sliver suspended in purified water. Silver is used in conventional medicine as an antimicrobial aid. Silver nitrate is put into the eyes of newborns to prevent infection. The effect of silver in killing germs is well known and some of the benefits suggested from decades of research include;

(This research has been graciously compiled by the website Wellness Mama and she has the studies listed at https://wellnessmama.com/130001/colloidal-silver/)

  • "Killing and preventing bacterial growth, including bacteria that are antibiotic-resistant
  • Killing some strains of pathogenic yeasts, including Candida and Cryptococcus (8)
  • Preventing viruses from entering human cells (9)
  • Reducing inflammation in contact dermatitis (rashes from exposure to irritating chemicals) in pigs and mice (10, 11)
  • Disrupting bacterial biofilm (a slimy shield that allows bacteria to hide from antibiotics) in sheep bacterial sinusitis (12)
  • Being toxic to cancer cells (13)
  • Effectively fighting against Vibrio cholera and a dangerous strain of E. coli, both of which could cause deadly diarrhea if
    left untreated"

Useful stuff to be sure! Like everything else, knowing when the medicine you make will be effective and when it won't is important, and with colloidal silver it is no different.

My favourite uses are...

Adding a tablespoon to milk to keep it from souring as quickly (my raw milk lasts about a week longer when I add it or keep a silver coin in the milk jar).

To kill external and topical infections. It works so wonderfully for this purpose.

Gargle it for throat infections.

Getting started with a colloidal silver generator costs about 1-4 hundred dollars (depending on the capacity you want to produce).

What are your favourite uses of colloidal silver? Happy medicine making friends!

Another awesome article:) I have always wondered how you make it at home. I will have to look into a machine. I have used it for tooth infection, sore throats and on a very bad oil burn on my hand, but I guess you never know the quality of what you purchase, as usual it is best to know how to do it yourself! Yes! Great for sunburns too. I had such a bad one the past summer, they can get infected so easily on the farm.

Ooof. Infected sunburn would be the worst!

I have several friends that swear by collidel Silver, i’ve Used it a time or two it seemed to help.
Following!

Excellent! I've always wanted to do this, for now I've just been buying it. Must share to save for later ^_^

Absolutely! Give it a try. It paid for itself within a few months.

Maybe you can clear something up. How exactly does the machine create the silver? Is the part that stirs the water made of it and ot flakes off or is their something else?

It uses reversing polarity electrodes on silver rods. It is an electro chemical rather than mechanical process. The stirring wand simply circulates the water so the sensor that turns it off (when the liquid reaches a certain ppm as measured by the water's conductivity). Good questions!

Thanks for clearing that up.
